When I met Rebecca Simms my husband and I had already had a bad experience with other attorneys and was basically told we had little chance of winning a custody case. From the moment we sat with her, shared our story, reviewed our potential case, we knew she was the one to help us through what would... be a four year battle for justice. Rebecca quickly proved herself to be impassioned, dedicated, and brilliant. Never for a moment did she let us think we might not win, and the odds were definitely stacked against us. When things looked bleak she assured us with confidence. For those years we worked together as a team, she gave us extraordinary support and attention, treating us, our case, as if we were her sole focus. She always had time for us, and we never waited more than a day for a response to any question. She put her heart and soul into this case. So many moments felt like divine intervention as she put the team of experts into place, but it was her hard work and determination that kept us moving forward. We won permanent custody that led to adoption because of her, her shear expertise and instincts. I know the outcome of our case could not have happened with anyone else, and I am eternally grateful. I have, and will continue to, recommend Rebecca first and foremost to anyone in need of a family law attorney.

Beware of working with Rebecca Simms: Following her advice has left me in an unsustainable situation. Ineffective planner. She repeats over and over - “it’s a marathon”. Rebecca focused on symptoms instead of causes. This can lead to more lawyer time needed with no end in sight to resolve the a...ctual cause of issues. I was on an island most of the time working to create positive changes that would result in less issues in the future. Her hourly rate is not justified. Her performance wasn’t good so it’s hard to say what hourly rate would be justified. $350 an hour is certainly too high. Rebecca did not take responsibility for mistakes. When I asked her if she was responsible for mistakes made she filed a motion to withdraw as counsel due to irreconcilable differences. We didn’t have irreconcilable differences. I followed her advice, always. Instead of taking any responsibility she blamed me and quit. I didn’t even blame her. I just asked her if she felt any responsibility for the situation I was in due to her legal counsel, advice, recommendations, etc. It took that little for her to quit. She never truly represented me or my child. She kept doing what she thought was best. Rebecca may work better in divorce with minimal or no disagreement. Since working with Rebecca I have seen a continual reduction in my authority/autonomy as a parent while acting for, and displaying nothing but, the best interest for my child. Make sure, if you don’t agree with language in proposed agreements, even if Rebecca urges you too, you don’t simply go along with it thinking she knows better. Be thoughtful and work through examples of what could happen in the future so language is incorporated that can mitigate potentially bad future situations. One would think an experienced lawyer would be good at providing better future-proof language. In my experience, I didn’t see the results of her advice and direction lead to positive results. I hired Rebecca to make my life and my child’s life better. She failed to make either of those happen. If I could go back in time, I would have hired someone else or just put the money I spent on her directly toward improving my child’s life. Before hiring Rebecca, ask yourself, can you trust a professional that won’t take any accountability or responsibility for their work. Do you want an attorney that will blame you and quit on you instead of trying to fix mistakes?

Rebecca represented me through my divorce several years ago.
