Stephan Francis King

Francis King received his B.A. in Government and International Relations (cum laude) from Clark University in 1978, and earned his J.D. (magna cum laude) in 1981 from New England School of Law, where he was a Law Review Editor.

From 1981 to 2007, Francis King practiced law in New York City and the surrounding area, handling a wide array of complex commercial litigation matters including, among others, cases involving federal securities law, contracts, civil RICO, accountants’ liability, legal malpractice, banking, bankruptcy, insurance, class action defense and business dissolution.  His clients included insurance companies, banks, accounting firms, law firms, manufacturing companies, real estate entities, and many other types of companies and entrepreneurs.

In 2007, Francis King relocated to Tennessee, taking a brief sabbatical to teach high school social studies. Since returning to the law, in 2009, and opening his office in downtown Nashville, the majority of Francis King’s practice has been comprised of family law and criminal defense matters, and he also represents clients in commercial and general civil litigation.  After many years representing mostly institutional clients, Francis King has found it especially rewarding to represent more individual clients, helping them conquer the personal legal challenges of everyday life. His practice encompasses all counties in Middle Tennessee.

Francis King is a member of the Nashville Bar Association, and serves on its Circuit and Chancery Court , Domestic Relations and General Sessions Court Committees.  Mr. King is also a member of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. In addition to Tennessee, Mr. King is admitted to practice law in New York and Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States District Courts for the Middle District of Tennessee and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
