I am a United States Navy Chief Petty Officer stationed in San Diego, CA. I was facing an ADSEP after serving 20 years of faithful military service. This is a review of Adam Cumberworth as my military attorney. After getting railroaded by an incompetent ADC and a corrupt military prosecutor in a court martial, I talked to several military attorneys. Adam Cumberworth was the only one that was personable and listened without first mentioning money.... I told him about my case and what happened and he explained my options, never pressuring me with a scorched earth alternative. I hired him for a discharge board that in a worse case scenario would have me booted out with an other than honorable discharge. This would have caused me to lose all my military/VA benefits after 16 years of service. Adam did an outstanding job getting witnesses and gathering evidence to present my case to the board. He even caught my Commander, a Lt. Colonel, blatantly perjuring himself to the point he refused to answer any further questions. This not only destroyed the government's case, but showed the lengths the military would go to try and destroy one of their own. The defense he put forward was so compelling and fierce, the 7 member board had no option but to retain me and allow me to medically retire after 15 years of dedicated service. While not cheap, his fees are very reasonable and he worked with me on a payment plan I could afford. Now it's just a waiting game on my conviction appeal decision so I can move on with my life. Had I hired him in the first place, I would have never had the conviction nor the 2 years of destruction the military has inflicted. I could not say enough good things about Adam as his results thus far have saved mine and my families future. I must first start by saying from the moment that I contacted Adam he openly communicated with me and gave me advice long before I ever decided to hire him. After two months of going through the process with my command talking with military and private attorneys I decided to hire him, not only becaus...e he genuinely believed me but I also felt he was not a lawyer chasing a paycheck. He cared about my case my family and my career. Through every step of the process he was always there to talk to and even contacting me to make sure that I was personally doing okay. Finally after six long months of waiting my command decided to send me to an administrative separation board instead of court Marshall. On that day I felt the most prepaired I could for that situation. During the administrative separation board he carried out his extremely well prepared plan of attack to defend me with his vast amount of knowledge. At every turn throughout the board he fired back and defended my character in ways that I could not have done by myself. At the commencement of the board I was extremely happy that they were able to see and understand what had happened and found no basis and therefore I was retained in the United States Marine Corps. I could not be more please with the outcome and I'm not sure how I would of made it through that incredibly tough situation without having Adam on my side.
