In 2016, due to the number of hours of volunteer service, the Merrell Law Firm was the Birmingham Bar Associations Small firm of the Year.
Background: Mr. Merrell's work history prior to becoming an attorney includes nearly 10 years in the criminal justice system working as a police officer, detention officer, and instructor. He has over 8 years’ experience in the insurance industry working claims. He has almost 10 years’ experience working with youth at the YMCA. He was a member of the Birmingham School of Law's honor society, graduating as the organization's treasurer and also served as special prosecutor on the honor court. He served a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for over 13 years where he was a staff officer, instructor, and crew member. Mr. Merrell spends all of his time outside of the office with his family, especially his daughter. He is an avid Golfer and enjoys history, Gettysburg and Williamsburg especially.
