I graduated with a BS in Engineering from the United States Naval Academy in 1974. After graduation, I served as an officer in the Marine Corps through 1979. I earned an MBA in Finance and Investments from the George Washington University in 1980, worked as a DOD Consultant and Financial Analyst, and then went to law school and earned my Juris Doctor at the University of Florida College of Law in 1984. I've been admitted to the Florida Bar since 1984.
My family law practice focuses on representing men in divorce, paternity actions, domestic violence injunctions and child support enforcement. I was the first such "Mens practice" in the Tampa Bay area, though many others have tried to pattern their practices after my model since then.
As a divorced father who had custody of his own daughter throughout her high school years, I am well aware of the challenges of trying to co-parent with what can seem a most difficult ex-spouse. The stress of divorce, the uncertainty over dividing assets, fighting to maintain your rights with your children, the personal attacks, and the strain it puts on friends, family, and even employment—that is where an experienced attorney with my background can make a difference. I try to provide the calming and relevant advice and counsel you need.
I believe that fathers are as important as mothers, albeit in different areas, and that the Best parent is BOTH Parents. I will work with you and represent you to preserve your rights, time, and parental control for your children, striving for equal timesharing wherever practical. You are not divorcing your children even though your spouse may try treating it that way.
Even after divorce, while you and your spouse live seperately, the best parent is still both parents and both should remain actively involved in their children's lives. Your kids don't have to be casualties of your divorce, nor should the divorce cost them either parent.
Another main issue in a divorce is equitable distribution of marital property. The presumption is an equal split of marital property and interests in Florida. Regarding division of the marital and any pre-marital and/or non-marital money, pensions, investments, home(s), and other property, I will do my best to advise you and ensure that your financial settlement is fair and within legal requirements for equitable distribution.
While most of my cases are setled before trial, I am not a stranger to trying cases if they can't be reasonably and fairly settled. I've been trying cases for 33 years now, and trial is where experience counts most.

RESULTS!
A very professional matter-of-fact gentleman and friendly individual. I had consulted other counselors on my prospects and their prognosis was very ominous; apparently not well informed on the subject matter. Mr. Kramer capably projected his skills, presented me a fresh positive outlook, whi...

Kramer takes no prisoners!
Jim Kramer helped me immensely in round two with my ex in court. His advice for me and how to handle information management with my children was invaluable. The results could not have been better. There's nothing like having a former Marine Annapolis graduate attorney working for you when you have...

James R. Kramer - ESQ (THE BEST)
Mr. Kramer is beyond peer - he handled a "contentious" divorce for me and ALWAYS knew what to do, when and HOW. The divorce involved numerous states (FL, GA, MD, CO) and Jim was on top of every situation. After having contacted a lawyer in MD and getting poor results, I turned to Jim and knew that ...
"I endorse this lawyer. Jim is an excellent fathers' rights advocate. His experience has taught him to be patient, diligent, professional, and friendly. Don't let his niceness fool you though. If the other spouse is being unreasonable, he will fight and go to trial for you. Jim Kramer is a very intelligent attorney."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known this attorney since law school and have had the pleasure of working with him from time to time. He is intelligent, industrious and highly experienced. He works hard for his clients and is passionate about their causes. I have referred a number of satisfied clients to him and if I ever personally needed counsel in this area of the law, he would be my choice."
"I endorse this lawyer. Jim is a formidable adversary and well versed on the law in Florida. An excellent litigator."
"Jim is one of the most straightforward lawyers I've ever had the pleasure of opposing. No sandbagging with this guy, and honest and polite on top of that. But the best part is... he has the best interests of his client top of mind, and when that includes cluing his client into reality, he's ok with that. Wish we had more cases together. Sorry; I meant "against" each other."
"I endorse this lawyer. Mr. Kramer provides excellent professional service and will protect your interests to the max."
"Jim is an excellent divorce/ family law attorney. He has been the opposing counsel on several cases I have handled over the last 20 or so years. iI have always found Jim to be a fierce competitor, tenacious, experienced and passionate. However, Jim has the unique ability to combine his aggressiveness with tempered reason, civility and good sportsmanship. He takes reasonable positions and defends those positions, reasonably. He is a gentleman-warrior. Though we have been through many bruising battles, I consider Jim to be a respected friend."
"Jim Kramer is an outstanding trial lawyer. His experience is very impressive. He is the kind of lawyer that any person wants on his or her side, rather than as the opposing lawyer. Jim's cross-examination skills are especially impressive. Woe to the hostile witness or opposing party who has to face Jim at trial. I've known Jim for more than thirty years. His expertise in the area of family law is outstanding. He's seen it all, and he knows how to achieve the best outcome in the most difficult situation. I highly recommend him!"

Florida Alimony Reform
I negotiated substantial timesharing with his 3 kids, then tried and got alimony reduced by 2/3 and retroactively. Then settled the wife's $245,000 fees & costs claim for $30,000 which he could pay off over 20 months
Wife ended up with $500 per month bridge the gap alimony for 24 months, and no rights to client's book, movie, clothing line, pension and no other alimony or payments of any sort. Client well pleased.
Got expeert to impute $170,000/year income potential to wife, then settled for stepped down durational alimony @ $16,000/month for 3 years, then $11,000/month for 3 years, then $9,000/month for 15 years alimony.
