- [ ] As I’m sure it is for many, filing for divorce was one of the hardest decisions of my life. It was not an easy decision and the situation I found myself in was something I could never have imagined and one that not many people could relate to. When I made the decision to file, I began researchi...ng law firms and even met with 4 different firms. Each of those 4 different meetings left me feeling confused, scared and second guessing my decision to file. It felt as if no one would understand or be able to relate. Eventually I had a friend recommend I meet with Ben Older. Meeting with and working with Ben and his paralegal Desereah allowed me to breathe. I could breathe and I could focus on myself and my kids knowing that I had an amazing team in my corner. They care but are also realistic and patient. I was separated and waited 3 years to file for divorce because I was very nervous to hire an attorney to go through the divorce/parenting plan process. He always keeps you informed and updated on everything whether it was a weekend, evening, anytime. I was never left in the dark about anything. We achieved more than I expected in less time than I thought it would take. He is aggressive at the right times, when he needs to be. He is extremely confident and experienced in court. When you have a legal issue in family law, it can be quite emotional. Ben did a great job of understanding my needs, making sound recommendations with the perfect balance of being aggressive while sensible. I got a text at 11pm one Sunday night from my 15-year old daughter who was on a ledge outside her second story bedroom window, trying to escape from her mother, who had beaten her up. All of my therapist and social worker friends told me that domestic violence only gets worse, that it was unlikely th...at this was the first incident, and that I absolutely must act. Child Protective Services was of no help, so a social worker friend referred me to Ben Older. Ben advised me to file simultaneously in Domestic Violence court for protection and in Family court for custody. I took his advice. Ben’s first move was to negotiate an agreement with my former wife in order to avoid the unpleasantness of court proceedings; unfortunately, when it came time to sign the agreement, she decided not to sign and we found ourselves in Domestic Violence court. Ben’s compassionate demeanor was able to put my daughter’s mind at ease about testifying. We had 4 hearings, over the course of 3 months; the process was negatively impacting my daughter emotionally and hurting her performance in school. At the last hearing, Ben told the judge that the Family court had not scheduled a hearing as of yet, and he thought it was time for him to write a permanent order of protection. The Domestic Violence judge agreed and protected my daughter for 2 years; normally 1 year is the maximum length of a protection order. While it was still a struggle every day, my daughter started doing better in school, I was able to find ways to get her head high, she graduated as a Junior and was accepted to college. I learned during those 2 years how close she was to running away from her mother. Had it not been for Ben’s skill, I shudder to think where my daughter might have ended up. I will be forever grateful to Ben and his team. I retained Ben a second time to defend me against a false child support allegation and would do so again. He is tenacious and as skilled they get.

I have been represented my Mr Older and his firm a couple of times over the last 11 years.
