Joseph Odato is a native of New York City where he earned his degree from St. John’s University School of Law. He received his B.B.A. from the City University of New York, Baruch College in Finance and Investments. He also spent a summer working for American International Group (“AIG”) in its legal compliance department. Mr. Odato primarily represents employees who have issues with their employment, e.g., issues with wages and compensation, employee benefits, and unlawful retaliatory and discriminatory practices under various state and federal laws including the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 and other employment related laws.
Prior to law school Mr. Odato served three years in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged from the military Mr. Odato worked in the financial services sector in New York City working on regulatory compliance with various federal laws including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and the Dodd-Frank Act.
Mr. Odato was first introduced to the area of labor and employment law while interning at a leading plaintiff’s side employment law firm in New York City. It was there that he realized the impact he could have on people’s lives in the area of labor and employment law. After graduating from law school Mr. Odato honed his skills as an attorney at a national defense law firm in Tampa, Florida and then at a labor and employment law firm representing employees in all forms of employment law including national class action lawsuits, appeals and complex litigation. After gaining valuable legal experience under the supervision of more senior attorneys Mr. Odato decided it was time to set his own course by joining Creed & Pinkard as a partner in 2016.
Today Mr. Odato devotes himself almost exclusively towards representing victims of unlawful employment practices including unpaid wages, overtime, and discrimination based on age, disability, gender, race, sex, and pregnancy as well as sexual harassment. Joseph is a member of The Florida Bar, the United States District Court for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, and the National Employment Lawyers Association.
