Biography
I graduated law school and licensed to practice law in 2001. I am licensed to practice law in Florida, Federal Southern and Middle District of Florida, 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. I started a law firm in January of 2002 and acted as general counsel of a publicly traded company garnering invaluable experience as a commercial litigator and transactional attorney. In April of 2002, I co-founded Kotzker/Shamy, which operated as K/S, Attorneys at Law since 2008. In January of 2022, K/S, Attorneys at Law announced two new partners to the firm, Tina El Fadel and Anastasia Mahone, and has since changed its name to Shamy, El Fadel & Mahone, PLLC, d/b/a SEM Law Group. Over close to a twenty year period, I have been instrumental in building a successful mid-small boutique law firm in the heart of Boca Raton. I pride myself and our firm in not only offering the highest level of service, knowledge, expertise but more importantly, the results we've garnered for our clients and our firms' and respective individual attorney reviews speak for themselves. An integral part of that success is access, ensuring our attorneys are always reasonably accessible to our clients and treat clients like people not billable hour entries.
I have opened and operated a number of successful businesses myself outside of my legal practice and I empathize and understand lawyer fees should be borne upon work not filler like inner office communications, single line emails billed at "minimum rates", and other ways to bolster billing that doesn't offer anything substantively to a client. I don't bill my clients for time I wouldn't be all too happy with being charged myself.
I am a former competitive athlete, having participated in competitive sports for the greater part of my life. My background in sports has cultivated a competitive spirit in my career. Professionally, I am a licensed lawyer and businessman, but most importantly, I am a family man I am blessed with a wife and two beautiful and wonderful kids, and our firm is a family owned and operated firm. Every one who works for my firm is family, partners grow from within rather than through third pary mergers or consolidation, and our clients are family to us all in the same; hence our firms' close to 25 year existence in an otherwise highly saturated and competitve market of attorneys. We have clients going back from the inception of the firm.
