Dana Lynn Kaplan

I do not recommend Dana Kaplan or this firm based on my experience. I hired Dana Kaplan for a straightforward matter. The debtor had already filed a Chapter 13 repayment plan, and as the creditor I retained the firm to amend the filing to include two specific items: the applicable interest rate and ...a priority debt. Both issues were discussed with Dana, and I provided the supporting documentation prior to hiring the firm. Neither item was properly addressed in the amendment. When I pointed out that the interest provision had been omitted, it was corrected, however I was charged additional fees for the correction. The priority debt was never included. When I raised that issue, I was told by Craig Eller the information was not provided previous to the amendment, despite emails showing it had been discussed before retaining the firm and throughout the representation. I was then told I would need to pay an additional retainer to file a second amendment that included same. In addition, Dana stated no further action would be taken in this matter. Apparently mistakes that should have been caught by the firm were my responsibility. Communication with Dana was inconsistent. I also questioned what appeared to be duplicate billing, and I was initially told by her that attorney's fees could be pursued, only to later learn from Craig that they were not legally recoverable in my case. That representation was a significant factor in my decision to hire the firm, so I felt misled. The fees I paid were substantial, yet the only meaningful result was adding the interest provision, something I could have accomplished myself and saved thousands of dollars. Based on my experience, I do not recommend this firm due to the communication issues, lack of accountability, billing concerns, excessive fees, and overall handling of my case.
