Richard J Fidei

Richard J. Fidei, a Partner at Colodny, Fass, Talenfeld, Karlinsky, Abate & Webb, leads the Firm's Insurance Regulatory Law Division.

A member of the Florida and Pennsylvania Bars, he represents insurance companies, reinsurers, health maintenance organizations, managing general agencies, brokers, premium finance companies, third-party administrators, claims companies and other insurance-related entities in connection with regulatory, compliance, administrative and transactional issues.

Instrumental in assisting clients with the formation, financing and licensure of insurers, he handles matters such as expansion activities, financial, reinsurance, market conduct, rate and rule filings and administrative and court proceedings, including administrative supervision and insolvency issues.  Also experienced with dispute resolution proceedings, including trial, mediation and arbitration, Mr. Fidei negotiates and prepares a wide variety of commercial transaction documents, merger and acquisition agreements, leases and other contractual, corporate and governmental matters. 

In October 2010, Mr. Fidei was named National General Counsel of the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals ("AICP").  He also serves as President of the AICP Gulf States Chapter. 

Mr. Fidei's other insurance industry trade consortium memberships include the Federation of Regulatory Counsel, American Association of Managing General Agents (AAMGA) Governmental Affairs Committee, the Surplus Lines Law Group, the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Officers and the International Association of Insurance Receivers.  He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Broward County Bar Association.

Mr. Fidei, who holds the highest rating of "AV" from Martindale-Hubbell, received his Juris Doctor from the Duquesne University School of Law in 1981.  During his course of study, he was appointed as a member of the Duquesne University Law Review and was Vice-Chairman of the Appellate Moot Court Board.  He also worked for the U.S. Department of Justice at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and for the Honorable Joseph F. Weiss, United States Court of Appeals, Third Circuit.

Mr. Fidei is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Mr. Fidei has served in leadership positions in a variety of civic organizations, including the Greater Fort Lauderdale Board of Realtors, Fort Lauderdale Rotary Club, Jaycees, Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, Easter Seals of South Florida and others.

An experienced legal instructor and lecturer who has been certified by the American Bankers Association, Mr. Fidei prepares and delivers insurance and reinsurance presentations worldwide.
