Biography
Jorge L. Piedra is a trial lawyer specializing in commercial litigation. Piedra was admitted to practice law in the State of Florida in 1996. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida. He attended the Florida State University College of Law where he graduated with honors. He was a member of the Journal of Transnational Law and Policy and an Articles and Notes Editor of the Journal of Land Use and Environmental Law. Mr. Piedra also attended Florida State University for his undergratuate studies, obtaining a B.S. in Political Science in . Piedra has handled more than 50 jury and non jury trials, dozens of arbitrations, and he has argued numerous cases before the Third District Court of Appeals.
Mr. Piedra has been awarded the prestigious AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Additionally, in 2007 and 2008, Mr. Piedra was selected and listed in Florida Super Lawyers magazine as one of the top 5% attorneys in the . Piedra is an active member of the Cuban American Bar Association and was honored as the organization's Outstanding Young Lawyer in 2003. Mr. Piedra is a member of the Latin Builders Association (LBA) where he has served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee since 2002. Mr. Piedra previously served as Secretary to the L.B.A. and currently serves as General Counsel and Chairman of the L.B.A.'s Legislative and Community Affairs Committees. In 2002 and 2005, Mr. Piedra was selected as the Latin Builders Association's Attorney of the 2007, Mr. Piedra became the President of the Big Five Club an exclusive private country club which offers a variety of recreational sports and social facilities to its members. Previously, Mr. Piedra served as the Club's Secretary and General . Piedra is also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, organizers of the world famous "Carnival Miami" and "Calle Ocho" festivals. The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana is a non-profit organization geared toward providing community programs and scholarships to underprivileged children in South Florida. Mr. Piedra has served on the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana's Board of Directors since 2003 and has chaired the golf tournament and voter registration . Piedra resides in Miami with his wife, Cristina, and their five children.
