We had an employee, Jose, who was charged with a criminal offence that could have put his immigration status in jeopardy. Steve worked closely with the criminal defense council to draft the language that the DA used in the sentencing document. Steve recommended we do this so that if immigration issu...es were to arise later, we would be able to fight to keep Jose in the country. Sure enough, after all the criminal proceedings were done, ICE detained Jose and kept him in custody for two years. I count us as incredibly lucky and blessed to have engaged the services of Steve Goldstein. He had the vision and forethought when we first came to him to put a defendable plan in place. He executed a legal strategy that, in the end, allowed us to prevail. It took two years of fighting and two appeals to the BIA to get the job done – mainly because of how broken the immigration system is and the fact that the judge who heard the case was incredibly conservative. In the end, Jose was one of less than 1.5% of people in his situation to gain cancellation of removal. I credit Steve and the team at the Pozo Goldstein firm with having the insight to put a strategic legal plan in place that saved Jose from deportation. Steve was personally vested in this case.
