We had an employee, Jose, who was charged with a criminal offence that could have put his immigration status in jeopardy. Steve worked closely with the criminal defense council to draft the language that the DA used in the sentencing document. It took two years of fighting and two appeals to the BIA to get the job done – mainly because of how broken the immigration system is and the fact that the judge who heard the case was incredibly conservative. In the end, Jose was one of less than 1.5% of people in his situation to gain cancellation of removal. I credit Steve and the team at the Pozo Goldstein firm with having the insight to put a strategic legal plan in place that saved Jose from deportation. Steve was personally vested in this case.
