Settled Case

Despite the difficulty of fighting an employment case, this case was taken up on a contingency basis. It was described to us as having no out-of-pocket costs and in the end that was exactly what we got and we won. It should also be pointed out that we had collected clear documentation of our claim. ... The amount of money was not as important as making the point that there was a systemic problem with how a large employer treated their employees. Worse yet the practice alienated the employees to the point that most just quit. Sadly they did not even see how their management practices hurt their business and the customers they served. We hear today about cultural problems in the workplace and how sexual harassment injures female employees. Granted it is still a big problem. There are others that are even bigger that erode our trust in institutions, harming the employees, investors and the customers that should be helping in the name of cost cutting. Business leaders and management are directed to improve profits. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. However, incompetent management create and implement policies that that poison the work environment and help no one. Today, the department that was involved in this case is a disaster. It is a critical department but went from one of best in the company to this state because they are so incompetent that they don't even recognize their own problem. The money derived from this case will not have any material effect on their business. Winning this case offers the public no benefit because it can't be discussed due to the settlement terms. We could have hoped that the company might have learned something and even identified the incompetence of the management so they could be removed. But they obviously didn't. They lost so much more than the small amount of money that they paid to settle the case. We have very big problems in our country at the moment. This problem of employee abuse is more a symptom than the route cause. Thinking that large corporations are the answer to a better future is so flawed. Incompetence occurs in corporations as much as in government itself. The larger the corporation (or government) just makes the incompetence more impactful and damaging. It is not a choice between government control and corporate freedom. Both can coexist and be beneficial. The real choice is the motivation and competency of leadership. A competent leader listens, learns and adjusts. The worst leaders think they know the answer before they even understand the alternatives. Thank you Chad for giving us the opportunity to make a statement and living up to your word.

Wrongful Termination

I was leery hiring an attorney on contingency simply because of the saying - You get what you pay for. My concerns were unfounded. While I never met Mr. Levy face to face, he was still able to connect with me like we had actually met. He stayed on top of my case and guided me through all the ins a...nd outs us non legal people would not know. He advised me of the pluses and minuses of "my" choices and was willing to take the case in whichever direction I chose. From start to finish, I had my case settled in 8 months. I did consult with an attorney friend of the family from another State before signing. They felt it was a good piece of work for the case I was bringing.
