My husband was just diagnosed with terminal cancer that had metastasized into the bone. Medically, I knew that time was short for him. Our living trust needed updating, since it was set up in 2004, but we had been procrastinating doing an update for the past two years. I could not contact my att...orney, who prepared the original trust, will, and durable power of attorney, and asked my daughter, who lives in California to find someone else. Time was of the essence since my husband had just entered hospice care and was rapidly declining in health. My daughter found Isabel after searching for estate lawyers near me who had received strong reviews. When she called, Isabel was in a conference, but promised to call and discuss my situation during a break. After my daughter explained my urgent need, Isabel expedited a meeting with my daughter and me, as soon as my daughter flew into Florida. To speed things up, Isabel had my daughter FedEx the 2004 documents to her, so Isabel could familiarize herself with the documents and identify what changes were needed to meet current legal requirements. My daughter and I met Isabel early in the morning. Isabel expressed several concerns that she had about the 2004 documents. She was very methodical and precise with every detail, and the reasoning behind the suggested changes, including the need to have a living will. I felt the same sense of confidence and trust in Isabel as my daughter experienced during her initial telephone call. I was perfectly comfortable communicating my husband's and my wishes to Isabel. I felt that I was in extremely capable hands and that our wishes would be fulfilled. Because of my urgency, Isabel prioritized the update, and asked me to return in the afternoon to review, and to sign my updated documents. She also explained that she wanted to have my husband sign his documents by the next day, but since he was bedridden, that she would participate via telephone, while a notary and two witnesses sat with my husband to witness his understanding and signing of the updated documents. When I returned in the afternoon, Isabel walked me through the updated documents and had my documents signed by me in front of two witnesses and a notary. Then, in testimony to her thoroughness, she asked if my husband and I had prepared health care surrogate designations. When I gave her our 2004 versions, she again noted that significant changes in law had occurred, and updated versions were needed. She asked me to stay for a short time, while she prepared new versions. Then Isabel had me sign in front of the witnesses and the notary. The next day, Isabel held the review and witnessed signings for my husband's documents. Once again, Isabel was meticulous in making sure that my husband understood what documents he was signing, verbally guiding my husband, the witnesses, and the notary through each step requiring a witnessed signature, and verifying that proper identifications were produced. I can literally go on and on noting the above and beyond work that Isabel took upon herself to make sure that the updated trust was exactly what my husband and I wanted. Truly, what separates Isabel from all other trust attorneys is not only her in-depth knowledge and precision for detail, but her kindness and spirit radiating from within. You know that she is doing this from her heart. I can't think of another professional that I would feel honored to write a review about, and I hope that this review truly captures what an amazing woman and attorney Isabel Bettancourt-Levey is.
