I had to hire Paul and his colleague David for a very complicated emergency guardianship case. I first met with David who explained very thoroughly during the free consultation the ins and outs of guardianship. And I really appreciated his honesty - ie don’t go the guardianship route unless you absol...utely have to as it’s brutal and expensive. I think other attorneys might have suggested that I immediately go into guardianship without that kind of honesty. He was right, and unfortunately, there was no other option but to go that route in the end. Throughout the case, I felt supported by Paul and David. They knew my financial situation and worked within that - ie it did not feel like they were adding any extraneous charges or doing things that were not absolutely necessary and they were not being overly aggressive unless called for - and at times it was called for. They were also kind and empathetic which I don’t think is always what you equate to attorneys. I appreciated that a lot as this kind of case can be very overwhelming and isolating - and in my family’s case, the personalities involved were pretty ruthless. I felt like I had a team in place that I could trust. The ONLY suggestion I would have is there were a few times I would have loved more “if I were in this situation, this is how I would handle it” versus “these are all the things to consider and which way things could go wrong.” As someone who’s never had to engage a lawyer in the past at times I felt a little overwhelmed (and that’s on me - I should have asked during those times for more hand holding). But overall, as painful as this experience was, they made it bearable and with fairness and kindness.
