$5000 and two years wasted

I truly believed in this lawyer. He was my neighbor. His kids and now ex-wife, and others in the neighborhood would come to my home to decorate cookies with my daughter and I every year during Christmas. I talked to him a few times about my divorce lawyer, and how I would have to argue with my first ...lawyer just to get anything done. He stated that I should never have to argue with my lawyer. This is how I found out he use to practice family law. I trusted him. Needless to say, I went from bad lawyer to completely awful lawyer. He quoted me one price then when I was ready to pay stated a different price. I thought maybe that was because he didn't realize the work he would need to put into my case. After paying him $2,500 he quoted me he charged me another $2,500. I was in tears when I called his staff and asked why. This is the first time one of his staff members (Kelly) were rude to me At first, I let him handle my case on his own. Trying my hardest not to offend him. I did consider him as a friend and cared about his family. This lawyer destroyed a case that was all laid out for him. 1. I was being charged for things they didn't do. 2. When calling to make a payment I was charged $70 for making a payment. I brought this to his staffs attention Kelly once again was very rude. Needless to say the charges were not taken off. 3. When it came time for us to appear in court. The judge refused to hear our case because Mr. Lippman never submitted the right paperwork (transcripts). The judge chastised him and stated , "You know better." He then blamed it on his staff. When it's his law firm. I felt bad for him and told him and stated to him; "Nobodies perfect, just fix the problem." 4. He then lied after court stating there was no transcript for my divorce trial. When I challenged him on the fact that there was a transcript. He stated to me" If you can find the transcript I will personally pay for it out of my own pocket." That was a lie. I found the transcript but he never paid for it or ordered it. 5.This person would talk to me like I was one of his staff or worse. I would always asked him to explain things. He wouldn't and would be very condescending when speaking to me. I explained to him I am a nurse not an attorney. 6. After reminding him that I don't work for him and was not his slave he quit. Thank god! ( I didn't know the proper paperwork to submit to get rid of him.) 7. I had to constantly remind him what I wanted out of my divorce, and what was going on. I guess lawyers don't take notes. At least he didn't on my case. I explained to him that he was too laid back. He had to be more aggressive, "My ex husbands lawyer have no problem telling his lies." A year after ruining my case he still didn't have a court date. He lied about a mediation and stated that the other lawyer canceled. After I stated how unhappy I was with him he stated that I was the reason he canceled the mediation because I didn't hand in forms to him. Which is it? This person is a compulsive liar. I paid him $5000 for absolutely nothing! All of the things that happened in my divorce would have happened without an attorney. I would have accomplished more had I just defended myself. He added even more stress to an already stressful situation. Save your money. Mr. Lippman defended me in my real estate case. Now looking back and seeing how he treated me I think he wanted to just get me out of the neighborhood, and he did. I was naive to think this person would defend me. Toward the end he would only communicate with me through email. When I asked how come he does not call because I don't always see his emails. Mr. Lippman stated that's how he's always did business. Which is completely false. When he first became my lawyer he would call or text me if I didn't respond to his emails in a timely fashion. So why did this change? Why was I not made aware of it?

It is always unfortunate when a client does not cooperate with her attorney or listen to the advice given. The public record speaks to the work we did. We parted ways because of your treatment of my staff and your treatment of me which is specifically why I had to reduce everything to email. - Good luck to you Lawanda.

Smart and focuses on results!

He took a consult outside of working hours, reviewed the issue, read law and cases on the phone with me and was able to cut to the chase, so to speak, and came up with practical solutions to an otherwise litigious matter. He didn't charge me and I didn't need to retain him (yet). He asked me to follo...w up with him because he thought the issue was interesting (and "issue of first impression," as he called it).
