Russell B. McCormick was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. McCormick graduated from Duncan U. Fletcher High School in 2001. Mr. McCormick would then earn his bachelor degree at the University of Central Florida in 2005. Mr. McCormick then returned from Orlando to his home town of Jacksonville and earned his Juris Doctor degree from Florida Coastal School of Law.
During law school, Mr. McCormick was a member of Florida Coastal's renowned Moot Court Honor Board. Mr. McCormick also pursued his interest in Criminal Law by studying International Criminal Law while attending a summer curriculum in Rome, Italy. After returning from Italy, Mr. McCormick began defending the rights of the accused in Duval County as a Certified Legal Intern for the Public Defender's Office. Mr. McCormick's performance in the classroom earned him a Governor's Scholarship as well as individual recognition for academic excellence.
Upon graduation from law school, Mr. McCormick began applying his knowledge of criminal law by defending the rights of the indigent as an Assistant Public Defender in Southeastern Kentucky. Mr. McCormick then returned to Jacksonville and began working as an Assistant State Attorney. Mr. McCormick served as an Assistant State Attorney under elected State Attorney Angela Corey from 2009 to 2013. From the time he began as a prosecutor in county court to his final assignment as a Special Assault Division Attorney, Mr. McCormick handled thousands of cases and conducted dozens of jury trials, from misdemeanors like Petit Theft and DUI to the most serious felonies like Armed Robbery and Capital Sexual Battery, which is punishable by mandatory life in prison.
The knowledge, experience, and skill Mr. McCormick has gained working on both sides of criminal cases as an Assistant Public Defender and as an Assistant State Attorney, and the knowlegde and refined skills gained via membership and participation in the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and The National College of DUI Defense, provides a unique advantage in the defense of your rights.
When he is not practicing law Mr. McCormick prides himself on maintaining an active role in the community by volunteering and participating in events to benefit charity. Mr. McCormick also enjoys attending Jacksonville Jaguar games.
