J. David Ellzey Jr.

Mr. Ellzey was a consummate professional in all aspects fo my case. From a very thorough initial free consultation, through our eventual court date, he was in my corner. Morgan, his para legal is a rock star. He may not be the cheapest, but this may be one profession it doesn't pay to shop around. Go... with the guy that can make your problems go away! Man, I highly recommend Mr. Ellzey. He was very realistic about expectations and very informative of how the courts work and what I should expect. He is an extremely nice guy. Once I took my emotions out of the way and started thinking realistically my divorce / custody proceedings were ironed out in... no time and I was even refunded some of the money that was not used in my trust account. David Ellzey was my attorney for a very complicated and tedious divorce (that's putting it mildly). I can honestly say that had he not been my attorney, my entire experience would have been different. I had consulted with several attorneys, having long discussions and providing a lot of information b...ecause of the nature of my divorce, and none of them offered the emotional support and empathy David offered. For anyone who has experienced any sort of trauma, you will understand that having someone simply believe you and advocate on your behalf is invaluable. David did this in every way possible, and I am eternally grateful to him. Now, rather than being surprised that he succeeds at being both an effective attorney and an empathetic and ethical advocate, I'm more annoyed with other attorneys who can't find that balance, as I feel it's inexcusable. As the other reviews state, David was patient and understanding while I processed the emotional distress that any divorce causes. I always felt valued as a client and as a person, and never felt like just a case number on a docket. He personalized my financial needs regarding the settlement and didn't just throw out numbers that sounded good. Most importantly, he never pushed me to just accept this ridiculous 50/50 shared parenting schedule that Florida has adopted, even though the bill was not passed and there is no legal presumption for it. Determining shared parenting was by far the most difficult part of my divorce, and I was an absolute emotional mess when negotiating this (seriously, a literal mess!). David maintained his advocacy for what I truly wanted and what was best for the kids, and that is what that sets him apart from the rest. He actually listened to me, gained understanding of my decisions, and never asked me to reconsider my stance because it was simply the status quo here in Florida and would be easier for him. That is what sealed his fate as my favorite attorney, and why I will continue to use him for my future legal needs (let's hope it's just my will...hopefully I never have any more family law needs or criminal defense!). In summation, if you're on the fence about hiring an attorney, please don't hesitate to set a consultation with David. He helped me understand things better. He passed the box of tissues and made it easier to walk out of his office verses how I fe...lt going in. I am grateful for David and his team.
