Defying the odds of being raised primarily by a single parent in a community riddled with crime and drugs, Anthony Johnson took the high road to achieve success when he joined the United States Air Force after high school. He was motivated to serve his community by becoming a lawyer, which was a goal he strived to achieve after graduating from the Community College of the Air Force in April of 2008.
While serving in the Air Force as a C-17A Loadmaster, Anthony completed his BA in History from Thomas Edison State College, where he made the Dean’s List every term and graduated near the top of his class in 2009. His original plan to become a prosecutor changed while in law school, when Anthony realized the critical role of criminal defense attorneys in protecting the rights of citizens. He graduated from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2011 with numerous awards.
Even before graduating, Anthony worked as a Case Reviewer with the State Appellate Defender’s Office in Detroit, MI in 2010 where he gathered, categorized, scanned and reviewed police reports, transcripts, court opinions, and affidavits to determine and isolate the basis of criminal convictions. Going beyond the call of duty, he often analyzed and wrote letters related to evidence concerns of the Detroit Crime Lab. He ensured that customer satisfaction, integrity and time objectives were maintained within existing financial obligations.
To date, Anthony Johnson has practiced as a student attorney in Michigan and as a licensed attorney in Georgia, representing hundreds of cases on behalf of clients. He has served in matters involving sentencing, pretrial, plea agreements, collections, probation reviews, and show cause hearings; working both in Public Defender’s Offices and within the State Appellate Defender’s Office. His hands-on approach in analyzing transcripts, police reports, complaints and affidavits to determine the basis of allegations has helped many of his clients to yield favorable outcomes. Anthony is a member of the National Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, as well as the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Despite having a full schedule, Anthony manages to make time for his various social commitments. He volunteers his time working with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. He loves basketball and U.S. currency collecting, as well as traveling.
