Dropped my case after 5 months

I hired Mr. Stanley Friedman from Friedman & Martin Attorneys at Law Firm on September 4, 2015. Mr. Friedman was the attorney assigned to handle my Medical Malpractice Case against East Georgia Medical Center regarding an employee working as an Registered Nurse during a procedure in 2012. After sever...al months of handling my medical malpractice case and several months of pain and physical therapy, on February 9, 2016 my husband and I visited Mr. Friedman for a meeting and upon our visit Mr. Friedman presented me with a written letter that his law firm was withdrawing his services and representation of my case. He therefore, stated that I had a legitimate claim but did not want to pursue my case. I only had one year to file the law suite and he held up my case for 5 long months. His lack of concern caused me to search/hire a new attorney that would agree to represent my case.

We at Friedman & Martin hear and understand this complaint and concern, and would like to give some information that goes into decision making on a medical negligence case. It is always not possible to make a quick decision about whether to file a medical negligence case, and in fact, a five month time frame between intake of the potential case and a decision of whether to move forward or not is a short turnaround time. A case review can take many months and involves getting medical records (which alone normally takes several months), reviewing the records, and possibly have a medical provider(doctor or nurse) review the records. A law firm must consider the merits of the case, the likelihood of a successful settlement or verdict based on the injuries and the costs to bring the case in order to make sure the client will make a good recovery. We hope that after our five month time from to review the case, another lawyer took the case and is successfully pursuing it. We tell our clients for whom we review cases, if our firm cannot take your case, get a 2nd, 3rd, and/or 4th opinion, as different firms have differing opinions on the strength of cases. If we do not take a case, we offer to give our clients a copy of the records we have obtained so they may take them directly to another attorney for review, which saves costs and time for the second attorney. We hold ourselves to a high standard for review of cases, and we are sorry this client was unhappy with our decision and the timeframe it took to come to a decision.

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals.
