Pre-Rachel Kaufman Law

Prior to starting her own law firm, Rachel spent almost two years working as an associate at a mid-sized criminal defense firm in Atlanta, GA. There, she represented hundreds of clients on criminal charges and gained extensive courtroom and trial experience.

While working for this firm, Rachel also attended and graduated from the prestigious Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyer’s College (“TLC”), a three-week, intensive legal training seminar in Dubois, Wyoming.

Soon after, using the TLC method, Rachel tried her first murder case as lead counsel and won “NOT GUILTY’ verdicts on both murder counts. This victory came after a grueling week of trial and more than 20 hours of jury deliberation.

It was during this murder trial that Rachel envisioned the creation of her own law firm—a firm that would take justice to new heights—a firm that would provide the most holistic, individualized, and aggressive legal representation imaginable to the people who need it most.

Legal Education:

Rachel graduated from Emory University School of Law in 2012. While in law school, she dedicated herself to criminal trial practice—completing both a summer internship and two-semester field placement at the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office. There, she assisted in handling felony cases with supervision from seasoned prosecutors.

She is grateful for that experience because it helped her better understand her (future opponents) and build important relationships with them.

Also, while in law school, Rachel served an articles and symposium editor on the Emory International Law Review, the Vice President of the Criminal Law Society and founded a club—the Emory’s Student Animal Legal Defense Fund chapter.

College Education + Misc.:

Prior to attending law school, Rachel interned at the Humane Society of the United States in their Government Affairs division in Washington, D.C. She also spent five months in Lima, Peru, volunteering at an animal shelter and studying at a local university. Animal rights and welfare have always been Rachel’s passion and community service of choice.

Rachel received her undergraduate degree in Spanish and Political Science from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

She is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and an avid Cleveland Sports fan but she is proud to call Atlanta her home. When Rachel is not working, she enjoys travel, painting, yoga, and being with her family and friends.
