I hired a different attorney at K&S. My case was assigned to Louis's paralegal. Having worked in law firms, that's very unusual. Louis showed up at a meeting and took over my case when a scheduling conflict occurred. It turned out that Louis was best friend's with my former husband's attorney. I... had been "slammed". They travel together, go out to dinner as couples. . .While that wouldn't have bothered me, it was evident that my former husband knew things he shouldn't have known. Louis barely spoke at my hearings. He is very knowledgable and competent, his intentions are questionable. During the deposition of my former husband, Louis left so many questions unanswered, the deposition wasn't useful in getting to the bottom of the serious issues. I was compared to a Mack truck by the other attorney because Louis wasn't talking. Per my Order, I should have been awarded attorney's fees. Louis waited a day before the Motion was due, to return my calls, saying he didn't think it was a good idea, even though my settlement agreement specifically stated that I was due attorney's fees if I had to sue my x for non payment. It was a $36k call on his part that left me holding the bag. He said that my divorce was very "contentious". Contentious implies there's an issue on both sides. When your x husband is a bully, who uses his influence, money and friends. . to further the abuse, it's domestic abuse and harassment. Only a man would see it as contentious. . . when in fact, I was standing up for my rights and protecting my children. Louis is a nice guy, who is easily influenced and isn't as strong of a man or an attorney as I would want handling my matters. . .which is why I didn't hire him in the first place. If you are in a domestic abuse situation, hire an attorney who is well versed in the ways in which male and female former spouses can use the court systems to further the abuse. Then you won't have to fight your own battles.
