10.0 AVVO ratings are great, but there’s no substitute for experience. Choose wisely.
I was born in Fort Walton Beach, Florida and grew up in the small town of Blakely, Georgia. I graduate from Early County High School and attended the University of Georgia. I graduated from UGA in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. I attended the University of Memphis School of Law and received Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1995.
I began my legal career as an associate with the law firm of Shepherd & Johnston in Griffin, Georgia, in August of 1995. I became a partner with the firm in 2002. The firm became Johnston, Owen & Bullard, in 2006. The firm of Johnston & Owen, LLC was formed in 2018. I am currently the manager of the firm with offices located in Fayetteville, Griffin and McDonough.
Family law is something that I enjoy. I have handled thousands of contested and uncontested divorces, custody and support modification cases, legitimations, adoptions, contempt cases and guardianship matters. I believe that going through my own divorce and custody case made me a better lawyer. It helped me to better understand what my clients are feeling as they go through the process. Sometimes a difficult process can be made much more tolerable if the attorney understands the law, the legal process and the needs of his client. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping to ease a client's fears and concerns.
Of course, my #1 goal is to accomplish my client's ojectives. I am committed, however, to always being truthful with my clients and not making promises that I might not be able to keep. I won’t tell a prospective client what they want to hear in order to collect a retainer fee. The only promises that I will make to any prospective client is that I will give them my very best, that I will take the time to learn the facts related to their case, that I will have a thorough understanding of the law applicable to their case and that I will appear at all proceedings prepared to represent them to the best of my ability.
I have handled a significant number of personal injury cases, car wreck cases and cases involving wrongful death. I have obtained multiple six figure settlements for my clients over my 25 years of practice. A substantial number of my personal injury clients are clients that I previously represented in a family law matter of some sort. I'm proud of that. What it tells me is that the client didn't hire me to handle their personal injury case because of an advertisement or a clever slogan. They have hired me because of their prior experience with me and my firm. They have developed a prior personal relationship with me and have trusted me in the past, and they are willing to trust me again to handle a new matter for them.
If you have visited my AVVO page then perhaps you should schedule an appointment with me to discuss the matter or the issues that you are dealing with. I may be able to help you. Please take some time to read my client reviews that are posted on this website.
