As of May of 1997 worked for nine judges including an externship with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia, Hon. Willis B. Hunt, who is now a federal judge. Since 1997, I've had more than 2,200 cases from armed robbery jury trials to jury trials over the validity of wills, to bad septic tanks to hundreds and hundreds of divorces.
Where I can help my client get to a point where we can settle the case, that's what we do. Getting a case to a point where it can settle takes work because the other party usually has an attorney who believes the lies that their client tells. The only way to disprove the lies to the other attorney is to do the pretrial work it takes to get the case ready for trial. If the other attorney won't settle, then we have done the work it takes to go to trial.
Where I can save my client money by putting my client to work as my 'virtual' paralegal, then I do that. Doing so helps the client learn how the law interacts with the facts and helps the client understand why it is that I need documents - and not just the client's words - to win the case or at least to reach a reasonable settlement.
Make no mistake, where a case shouldn't be settled because the other side is unreasonable then I will not advise a client to settle. I have no qualms about going to and through a bench trial or a jury trial in any case. Where custody is at issue or jail time is at issue, a family can be destroyed if the wrong decisions are made. I won't contribute to that sort of a result. I fight for people at whatever level they need me to fight for them; I simply try to balance the amount of fighting that truly needs to be done with the resources that my client has and the true needs of the client's family, the business' needs, the rights of the heirs, and the Defendants accused of crimes by the government.
You can trust me to help you. If I can't help you, I'll tell you that. I am often much more candid than some folks prefer.
