What did I need from my legal representation? I needed someone who could be patient that my situation was hard for me emotionally. I needed someone willing to understand some difficult nuances. I needed someone who both could figuratively hold my hand through some of it. Meanwhile I needed someone wh...o could give me the information direct and straight and tell me when I’m wrong. It was a tight rope walk of difficulty. And at the end of the day I needed someone to care about my side of the story. While this time of my life was nothing short of an extended nightmare, I find so much peace knowing I feel represented fairly and by someone at the end of the day I can call a friend (which is nothing short of a miracle. For one person to witness so much of a figurative mess and still show up to advocate for me at times felt surreal) . I would trust her again to represent my character and side in court any day. My kids and I have so much to be grateful for from Laura’s hard work and foresight. Results Vary, verdicts are complex, court can be unpredictable. And because of all that I chose to focus on the person that would help me through all of that. I think many people would find themselves lucky to be represented by a lawyer as talented and astute as Laura Sclafani. It’s a profession that requires a BS meter, soft skills, emotional skills, dedication to their schooling, and a continual sharpening of a your legal instruments. I felt as if Sandy was a friend. She treated me warmly every time she saw me or spoke with me over the phone. My ex-husband opened a case and served me with papers to lower his child support. I was scared about how this would effect my financial situation and my child but also about the whole process. Laura was honest. She told me things I needed to hear, not just what I wanted to hear. She was thoughtful ab...out my financial situation but also caring and supportive of my desires to keep the process amicable. She was thoughtful and thorough. I must be honest, I didn't get to keep as much child support as I wanted, but I also didn't lose as much as I could have. This is a win, in my book. She gave me truthful advice about the compromise my ex and I came to during mediation and was fully transparent about my options and the risks. I feel that I was informed and fully taken care of through this process.

I cannot say enough good things about Laura and everyone I had the pleasure to work with at Smith & Files these past few months.
