David Joseph Koontz

In the fall of 2022 I found myself in a rather unfortunate situation, falsely accused, arrested and facing a felony charge which if I was convicted not only would I be facing jail time, but my VA benefits (which I literally earned through my blood, sweat and tears) would have been in jeopardy as well.... I consulted several law firms and some even wanted to charge me for the consultation. David Koontz was one of the lawyers that I spoke to during that period and the reason I chose David to represent me is because he was saying the exact same thing that the larger Law firms were saying, but they wanted to charge me at three or four times more than the quote I received from him. The goal was to keep me out of jail, retain my military pension and prove my innocence. Not only did he accomplish all three of those things, but the case was dismissed altogether! Unfortunately I had two cases pending and the latter was recently adjudicated at the end of August of 2025. It was a DUI case and admittedly I had to “bite the bullet” in that case, but David Koontz still kept me out of jail and he was able to negotiate some favorable and special conditions with the judge and prosecutor on my behalf. I even recommended a friend and his family to David. That friend and his family were extremely grateful for the referral after a more than favorable and fortunate outcome in their case. Everyone makes mistakes. Especially when driving on GA highways. Mr. Koontz was there to help me out when I made that mistake. He even explained backup options in the event that th...e first plan did not work as expected. Due to the backlog these trials were several months after the incident. Mr. Koontz worked during that time to gather information and never lost interest in my case. He ultimately worked with the Prosecuting Attorney to get the incident reduced to a non-points violation. Overall, Mr. Koontz has a exceptional understanding of the Law and the jurisdictions. He was great to work with, very communicable. prompt and willing to help in any way. Over the several months working on this case, I was able to spend some time talking with David about his experience at Harvard and why he chose to do criminal defense. Through these conversations I have a better appreciation and understanding of his passion to truly help people.

I was referred to Mr. Koontz on my son's behalf to help resolve an outstanding warrant issued from neighboring Gwinnett county. Mr. Koontz was very professional, knowledgeable and timely in bringing the situation to resolution. I have also consulted Mr. Koontz on Family Law issues concerning my ...daughter. He appears well connected in the local lawyer community as he did offer a referral for a Family Law lawyer should we need one. As it turns out, his insightful advice helped her to resolve the issue without going to court.
