Since graduating in 2017 from the University of South Carolina School of Law, Cody has focused his practice exclusively on the area of family law (or divorce law, if you prefer). This focus has allowed Cody to develop the skills necessary to be a successful attorney for any domestic issue, whether the issue is custody, alimony, or distribution of an asset or debt. More importantly, this focus has allowed Cody to develop his personality as an attorney in the York County community.
Family law is different from other areas of law. In Family Court, you are held accountable for your actions before, during, and after litigation. As Cody has focused on family law, he understands how to guide a client through the process of litigation to either capitalize on or mitigate the client’s behavior before litigation began. He also understands that the often-unseen role of an attorney in Family Court is to set up the client for success after litigation ends. This is especially important in cases involving child custody.
The most important aspect of guiding a client through Family Court litigation is knowing when to pick your battles, and Cody has developed a reputation for knowing what battles are worth picking. As opposed to fighting over every little thing, Cody prefers to pick and choose his battles to maximize the effectiveness and minimize the cost to a client. As a part of this, Cody works to guide clients along a path that prevents them from being “the problem” in a case. Family Court focuses heavily on the optics: if you appear difficult to work with and make poor decisions during a case, the Family Court could hold such actions against you in the end. Therefore, Cody’s goal is to make his client appear impeccable by doing all the right things.
This all leads to Cody’s belief regarding domestic matters. Such litigation should end by agreement. If each party is reasonable, a case should settle. Settling is often the best ending for all parties, so long as the settlement is fair. However, if one party (or God-forbid both parties) are unreasonable, then settlement is highly unlikely. Cody prides himself on having reasonable clients; however, one reasonable party is not enough to settle a case. If a case cannot settle, Cody works to pick the battles worth fighting and focuses a case strategy on the related issues.
If you are interested in hiring Cody, simply reach out to him or his office. You and he will first speak over the phone. This free conversation allows Cody to make sure that our office can actually help you. If Cody believe you have an issue that he could assist with, he will invite you to come to our office for an in-person consultation. During this consultation, you will have an opportunity to sit down with Cody and ask any questions you have. Cody will examine your issue and develop a case strategy for your particular issue. If you then hire our firm, Cody will begin immediate work on your case.
Most importantly, hiring our firm means you will have direct access to Cody. You will be given his email, office number, and mobile number. This way, you can contact him with any issue, no matter the time of day or day of the week.
