I am a native South Carolinian.  After graduating from high school, I went on to the University of South Carolina, proud to be a Gamecock fan. Shortly after my freshman year I was held up at gunpoint and carjacked. It was a frightening ordeal, but in the end I "made lemonade out of lemons" and decided to pursue a career in Criminal Justice. I completed an internship in the SC State House and another internship at the Richland County Drug Court. I was so excited about the prospect of being a lawyer that I graduated in three and a half years from USC with a 3.7 GPA by taking summer school courses (that, combined with my AP credits from high school).  I always had some kind of part time job. I babysat before I was old enough to work. I was incredibly driven and realized quickly the harder I worked, the more I accomplished. I worked in a small ladies clothing store, Hallmark card stores, was an academic tutor in college, helped students with disabilities, had holiday employment at the mall, and even landed a job as a courier at a small law firm (Tompkins and McMaster Law Firm in Columbia, South Carolina). That little law firm had some powerful lawyers that encouraged and inspired me. I ended up getting into law school and I knew I would be happy doing exactly what I enjoyed. And I was right. I was the first lawyer, and first lady lawyer in the history of my family. And I wasn't finished making history.
First year law students are encouraged not to work due to the demanding academic work load. Not working and being a full time student was a laughable, foreign concept for me. I had a part time job as a nanny for Thad Myers, a local attorney in Columbia, SC. As luck would have it, the law firm where Thad worked needed a law clerk and guess who got the job!
Home Grown- It was a big break for me and I loved every minute working for the infamous James C. Anders and Associates. The building where I worked was an old historic home-turned-office space and it was beautiful...it looked like a museum. It was the nicest house I had ever seen.  I was grateful for my very own small desk space in the basement of the old house.  There were copies of checks on the walls of multimillion dollar verdicts prooving their success and I was fortunate enough to be there researching cases, learning the law, rubbing elbows, being a team player, taking it all in!The lawyers there were brilliant, creative, colorful, and were well known and well respected in the community. NBC's Dateline followed one of the cases. The lawyers worked on cases sometimes made national news (The Susan Smith case), and all of my opportunities were just right there in front of me. I worked alongside Keith Giese, who was a key lawyer in prosecuting the case against Susan Smith that made national headlines. My boss, Jim Anders prosecuted Pee Wee Gaskins. The Anders law firm was a long ways from the farm where I grew up!
I Had a Great Mentor- A self made man, the late Jim Anders always told me, "you have to get some trial experience before you can start winning verdicts like these." Anders, who tried the infamous case of serial killer "Pee Wee" Gaskins encouraged me to get some "real" trial experience at the Solicitor's Office, which is where he began.
I followed his advice and started working at the Dorchester County Solicitor's Office where I gained more trial and "in court" experience than I ever thought possible. I was actually trying cases, and not just researching. Jury after jury convicted sex offenders, domestic violence abusers, child abusers, and other derilects. For 4 years I tried cases and enjoyed my job immensely. I learned first-hand what the State needed to prove someone guilty. I met and tried cases with various defense attorneys. I learned their tactics, studied their legal theories, and dooked out cases with them. I loved it! It really doesn't feel like work when you get to do something everyday you enjoy and are passionate about.
Why I Started My Own Law Firm- With all the education, life experience, and necessary trial experience under my belt, it was time for me to open my own practice. People always ask me, how can you switch sides...go from prosecuting to defending? That's easy... everyone has constitutional rights. If I was arrested and was innocent, I would want the best representation I could get. I use the experiences from the Solicitor's office, from my humble beginnings in rural South Carolina, my experience at Anders' firm, and, yes, even from the carjacking in my practice now. I give my clients the one on one attention they deserve.

Extremely Satisfied Client (Victim of Domestic Violence )
My advice for anyone looking for a brilliant attorney for a victim of domestic violence situation should not bother looking elsewhere. Susan was willing to take on our vey difficult restraining order case with little notice and little time to prepare despite her busy schedule. She empathized with the details of our case and passionately took it on to be sure my daughter received the protections she needed. The defendant’s attorney fought hard but Susan was fierce, prepared, determined and had an indescribable protective instinct. Trust me look no further. Thank you Susan from the bottom of my heart! From a mom who desperately needed your help and you were there. Thank you for the extra efforts you also made after the case.

DUI & Drug Charge
Ms. Williams was strongly recommended by an associate of mine. My daughter had been arrested on suspicion of DUI and possession of cocaine. Ms. Williams quickly set up preliminary hearing to avoid my daughter from losing her licenses and then was able to get the drug charges dismissed. She later was able to work her wonders with the court system to also get the DUI charges dismissed and expunged. She understands the way the system works, does her research prior to stepping into the court room and was always extremely professional in her mannerisms. You could not not be impressed with the way she handles the court room and is on her toes and prepared. I would recommend anyone having to face the court system to have her by their side.

Always goes Above and Beyond
Where do I even start - from the initial phone call, first consultative meeting, her knowledge of the law, helpful staff, her experience and community connections have all proven Atty Williams was indeed the best choice. She was determined to help get the best results possible and that’s what she did. Highly recommend Atty Williams.

Juvenile
I read reviews that were geared towards why I was looking for a lawyer. Just the other reviews once I spoke to Susan I knew I was speaking to the right person. My minor son got a possession charge at school. Once I told Susan the story she was lost as to why they even charged him. She texted the solicitor to see if I even needed to hire her as she stated she didn’t want to take my money when the economy is the way it is right. Solicitor wanted more information and Susan then gave me my choice of how if I wanted to hire her things would go. While she said no promises everything look good. Once all information was given to her a short week or 2 later she called me to let me know that the case was dismissed!!! I couldn’t thank her enough.

Professional, intelligent and genuine
Hiring Ms. Williams to defend our son was the best decision we as parents could have made. Ms. Williams exemplifies a professional demeanor while simultaneously showing a genuine heart. Ms. Williams was an absolute God send who took great care in handling our son’s traffic violation. A traffic violation in the criminal world may seem like a mediocre infraction, but to a parent in their personal world it carries much weight and anxiety. Ms Williams was by far the greatest asset to our case!!!

Excellent Lawyer, Wouldn’t Hire Anyone But Her!
After an embarrassing DUI situation, I reached out to Ms. Williams, who responded immediately. My decision to retain her legal services was not solely based on previous 5-star reviews but was moved by her story (website bio) on what propelled her into becoming an attorney. Paralegal Ginny was efficient in communicating and documenting current case status and Ms. Williams was professional and knowledgeable in explaining on-going legal process and possible outcome, yet keeping a friendly demeanor. After several months, the charges were dismissed and am forever grateful for the service of Ms. Williams.

DUI dismissed
I was, unfortunately, stopped for a DUI earlier this year. Susan is extremely knowledgeable and took the time to explain the entire process, how best to handle my situation moving forward, and the different possibilities for the case. I was able to get Susan the information and documentation she stated would best help my case when it came time to stand in front of the judge. When the date came, there were about 100 other individuals awaiting their cases also. Susan was able to speak with the officer prior to any of those cases being heard and got my case completely dismissed. I am forever grateful and highly recommend Susan to anyone and everyone that needs an attorney.

Greatest representation I ever had.
I came across Susan criminal defense from browsing the web, she had a video explaining keeping your rights, an not pleading to something that wasn’t really a big issue, that may can hurt you in the future. “That’s what I was looking for”. But I received so much more, She kept me beyond up to date on my case, and my appearances. Consulting me also with my personal problems that may give doubt towards my case. She truly is more than an attorney she is a friend. An going against the system, that’s exactly what you need a friend that is well equipped an knowledgeable of the law and laws, who exceeds well beyond matters for YOU and your well being.

BEST ATTORNEY IN CHARLESTON
I have dealt with a few different attorneys on different issues. I have never experienced such professional and thorough help in my 36 years. If you have a legal problem, especially DUI related. HIRE SUSAN!!!! She is the best around, and turn what should be a nightmare experience into as pleasant of an experience as possible.
