Growing up in a military and law enforcement family, Scott spent most of his childhood in Southern California before moving to Summerville, South Carolina at the age of twelve where his father had previously spent time as an Air Force pilot. Scott attended the Honors College of the College of Charleston, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2005. Scott graduated Summa Cum Laude and was named the Top Honor Graduate, ranking number one in his graduating class. Scott graduated Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina School Of Law in 2008, and was ranked seventh in his law school class. During law school, Scott received the Order of the Coif, Order of the Wig and Robe, five CALI awards (including Insurance Law, Evidence, and Constitutional Law), and was a member of the Moot Court team for which he was awarded the Order of the Barristers. During law school Scott served as a judicial intern the Honorable Margaret Seymour, United States District Judge, and spent a year working as a law clerk for Richardson Patrick Westbrook & Brickman for the team handling the litigation surrounding the 2005 train derailment and chemical spill in Graniteville, South Carolina.
Upon graduation from law school, Scott served as law clerk to the Honorable Terry L. Wooten, United States District Judge, District of South Carolina, from October of 2008 until October of 2010.
