Courtney is Smith Horton’s newest addition, concentrating her practice in estate planning and criminal defense, including misdemeanors and traffic citations.
Courtney is a native Charlottean who grew up on Lake Norman. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with degrees in Political Science and Economics. After undergrad she returned to Charlotte and graduated from Charlotte School of Law earning a Juris Doctor degree with Honors. In law school Courtney was the editor-in-chief of the Property Law Journal, treasurer of the American Bar Association- Law School Division, Chief Justice of Order of the Crown, and President of Phi Delta Phi.
In addition to being involved in student organizations at Charlotte School of Law, Courtney interned with Honorable Frank D. Whitney, Chief Justice of the Western District of North Carolina; SafeAlliance; Union County District Attorney office; and SERC Reliability Corporation.
Courtney is very passionate about the local community. She is a member of the Young Affiliates of the Mint Museum and Mecklenburg County Bar Community Service Committee. For more than a decade she has spent each Christmas morning volunteering at the Charlotte Rescue Mission serving a holiday meal to the residents and their families. Courtney has used her passion for Charlotte and channeled it into the legal community. Her focus is to give back to the residents of Mecklenburg and Union County by providing a high quality legal service.
When Courtney is not practicing law, she enjoys traveling, playing tennis, and cheering for the TarHeels.
