Run! Do not hire!

Jensen as a divorce lawyer if you are female. From the reviews (males) he has high reviews, but not in my case. I asked several times if he was working for me or my soon to be ex husband. He wanted me to bow down to whatever my ex wanted, instead of fighting for what I wanted and deserved. Spoke very... rudely to me. Saying I was dragging my feet on signing paperwork when I was waiting for my name change to be finalized, which he knew I was doing. Funny that the day my name legally changed I sent him the paperwork and then 2 days later (dragging our feet?) he sent the updated paperwork, I signed, had notarized and sent back the next day. But yes, I was dragging my feet. I’d say Matt was just as bad as the ex. If you want to pay for your ex to have a second lawyer, Matt’s your guy. Otherwise, find someone who will represent YOU and will fight for YOU. After all I am the one paying the bill. Even though he constantly threw the cost at me. I never complained about the cost and paid every bill as soon as the link was sent. When I told him he was a horrible lawyer, he responded I was difficult to deal with. Interesting.

Ms. Vanness consistently took positions that prolonged negotiations and the legal process and caused her to incur unnecessary attorney’s fees, which was particularly frustrating because I voluntarily gave her a discount on my hourly rate (because I thought her economic situation warranted it). The most glaring example of this was her decision (against my advice; there were no allegations that her husband ever laid hands on her and he planned to move to another state) to proceed with her request for a restraining order against her husband, which was dismissed after a trial on the merits. Ms. Vanness’s decision to go to trial cost her more than $1,500 in excess attorney’s fees. On more than one occasion, Ms. Vanness accused me of “not fighting for [her],” which was usually after I told her that (in my view) she was not legally entitled to the things that she was demanding in our settlement negotiations. With respect to Ms. Vanness’s reference to my assertion that she was “dragging [her] feet” on “signing paperwork” (which she admits that she did in her review – “But yes, I was dragging my feet”), she provided assurances to me on 4.29.2025 that she would sign the “paperwork” in question. When more than a week passed and I called her to ask what was going on, she told me that her husband “c[ould] wait” with no other explanation. With respect to Ms. Vanness’s assertion that she was merely waiting for a legal name change to go through before she signed the “paperwork,” although she asked me some months ago about how to obtain a name change, Ms. Vanness did not inform me about her personal efforts to obtain a name change until AFTER it took legal effect. After taking almost a month to sign the “paperwork” (she signed on 5.22.2025), Ms. Vanness then expressed impatience to me about her husband not promptly signing (or turning over the signed paperwork) and got angry with me for suggesting that this was a problem of her own creation. Based on what I observed, the circumstances of the case, and her behavior, it is my view that Ms. Vanness used the divorce process to settle scores with her husband and make everyone involved (including me) miserable.

Professional Family Law Services - Highly Recommended!

Matthew Jensen has been handling my divorce case for about a year this October. He has persistently proven himself to be professional, knowledgeable and eloquent when representing my interests in court. He’s detailed oriented and effectively advises on the best legal course of action, given each pres...sing circumstance. Even in the face of ongoing resistance by my ex to a reasonable custody proposal, Matthew relentlessly persists to strengthen our case and develop sound strategies based on his expert knowledge and experience. I am very pleased with his continued professionalism and would highly recommend him to anyone dealing with Family law issues.

Tenacious & hard working

My wife played hardball and wasn't willing to be reasonable in our divorce proceedings. Matt was tenacious, did a good job representing my interests, and got me a favorable settlement.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
