Custody

If you want to win your case find another attorney. Mr. Hayes was unprepared for my case and informed me he was the day of court. I should have taken that as a big clue. During court, Mr. Hayes repeatedly made inaccurate comments. Not that they were substantial but it was a direct reflection of his o...wn admission of being unprepared. After my case went on for months I felt as if I were a burden and felt unrepresented. The office staff were rude and treated me like I was not their client. My case was lost. I would recommend you look elsewhere for an attorney.

Run far away

Mr. Hayes is one of the worst lawyers I have ever hired, the case took over a year to be closed. From the get go Mr. Hayes was unsure of if he was prepared enough to submit evidence to the court and always wanted to continue the court dates. Mr. Hayes does not give any advice, anytime I asked him his... opinion on a matter he would simply say "it's up to you". The case was not closed in my favor and I received the court order via email, Mr. Hayes never contacted me to explain the order or to even tell me the case was closed and order written. To add to his poor services as a "lawyer" his paralegals are rude and very disorganized, I was told by one of them that I would have to "re-hire" Mr. Hayes if I wanted him to explain the court order. So in short find a better lawyer and find a better Lawfirm!

Custody

Mr Hayes was hired for a custody case..he postponed the case many times..he did not review the new orders on the custody issues and refused to correct the papers..then he did the unthinkable..he withdrew from the case the day of court...

Divorce Case

I was separated from my husband who had been abusive. I consulted with Mr. Hayes and informed him of the abuse at the initial consultation for a divorce. I felt like he understood my situation and I hired him. I did not know that I could have filed a DV Restraining order against my estranged husband ...at the time. I knew very little about the law which is why I needed an attorney in the first place. What ended up happening was my ex took out DV papers on me for simply returning his phone calls over some property that we had in storage. My Ex lied to take the DV papers out on me and convinced his mistress to do the same. I had to spend an addition thousand dollars to hire a civil attorney to defend me in this civil matter after enduring weeks of Process servers disturbing my household and what little peace I had found after already leaving an abusive situation. I feel like I was abused twice. I needed help and I didn't get it. My ex was the only person that had ever had a police report for DV filed against him during the duration of our marriage. Generally, people do not understand how easy it is for an abuser to use the law to continue their abuse against a spouse. If my Lawyer had filed these papers on my behalf to start with, I would not have had to present photos of my bruises and phone records ( where he had been harassing me over months) in a civil court. In fact, there would not have been a civil case to start with. I am very disappointed and made this known to Mr. Haye's office.

Yes, he's cheaper but trust me that is not a good thing!

Please do yourself and your family a favor and do not retain the services of Shaun Hayes. He is indeed cheaper than most other attorneys in Asheboro, and he seems to be moderately knowledgable about family law, however you get what you pay for. I'll refrain from posting specifics regarding my case,... but it's a child custody issue and it remains unresolved after several months of back and forth with Mr.Hayes and my ex's attorney. I'm sure in a more simple case he may provide an adaquate service but in my opinion, children are way too precious to risk because you'd rather save money on attorney fees. He is non-communicative and not thorough. It's like pulling teeth to get a response or call back from his office, and when you speak with him, his answers are often indirect and short. I was often left confused and blindsided in court despite my efforts to be proactive and organized with my case information and details. Go with someone much more willing to communicate with you, or you will be disappointed.
