Endorsement
I am a long-time resident of Blacksburg. John Robertson has been an invaluable legal resource for me and, I expect, also for many others in our community. In short, John’s legal services are not just standard forms. Issues such as property, custody, or contracts are critical issues in one’s personal or business life and they demand attention to details. When I have gone to John for legal assistance, his response is, “OK, let’s work on this together.” And here’s another thing with John. I was recently out of state and needed a Power of Attorney on less than an hour’s notice. John was familiar with the situation and so within minutes a tailored document was in my phone inbox and ready to print. I call that “going above and beyond.” John has been a legal resource for me for 11 years and his responsiveness and ready knowledge of the vast world of legal matters is impeccable.

Great lawyer and human
I called Mr. Robertson after finding him online and reading his reviews. I chose to call him because of his experience in criminal law. Although Mr. Robertson could not take my sons case (2 Felony Charges) he talked to me several times on the phone and advised me on the law and the pending charges against my son. As a mother I felt completely helpless and afraid for my child. Mr. Robertson took the time to gather letters of reference for my son and presented them to the prosecuting attorney with an amazing letter. His letter and the references have given us hope for my sons case. I offered several times to hire him but he declined explaining his schedule. As busy as he was he still helped our family and gave us hope for absolutely nothing in return. Mr. Robertson is not only honest but caring. I would recommend him to any friend or family member for representation.

Student Conduct Lawyer
We had a student conduct issue where my son was being called to a review board with little/no information of what was being investigated. John gave us excellent advice without charging us as there was no need for follow-up. My son was not the target of the investigation, but they were checking if he had any information. John did an excellent job of explaining to my son his rights. Also, he was patient in working with a young adult who was intimidated about speaking to a lawyer and going in front of a review board. John was professional, knowledgeable, and generous with his time. He could have easily charged me for his services. If follow-up was needed or any other incidents occur, I will definitely work with John.

Wise beyond his years
I had an unfortunate incident involving my child with another roommate while attending college out of state. I was referred to John and found him to be instantly insightful on what was relevant to my child's situation with both the roommate and the landlord. John was able to quickly establish the options I could pursue and the steps required for each. John also had a very pragmatic sense about how others would respond to my possible actions. John provided me specific guidance to ensure I was able to get the outcomes I desired. In the end, he was probably too wise for his own good, as I was able to resolve this entire incident without any legal action. John's consultation was both insightful and empowering. I would definitely recommend John and his services to resolve your legal needs.

Landlord- Tenant Issues
John helped explain my options as a tenant in a situation with a difficult Landlord. He first got the basic info about my situation, then consulted the relevant code sections of the law before giving me any advice. I appreciate the fact that John was very professional. thorough, and seemed to generally want to help me solve a stressful situation. I'd definitely recommend john in any situation where a lawyer is needed, he was very detailed in explaining ALL of my possible options.

Truly the Best.
John Robertson is beyond excellent. I have never been so impressed by the skill, proficiency and professionalism of anyone that I have ever worked with. I am from out of state and was concerned about who to hire for my case in Virginia. I fortunately found John who is a masterfully skilled expert in the court room. John explained my options thoroughly and actually "under promised and over delivered." He is surprisingly calm, a seasoned expert in this field, methodically asks the right questions to deliver the desired results, and does it with a powerful gentlemanly demeanor. I don't think I have ever been so pleasantly surprised in my life with someone's ability and excellent performance. We were all amazed. Thank you John, you truly are the best. If you are looking for your best chances of success, John is the right choice to represent you.

Incredibly Helpful!
John Robertson was so very helpful in my daughter's traffic case. Always understanding and respectful. Having gone through the initial trial for her as we had contracted him to do, he was kind and diligent enough to go again for her to assure that the court ordered results were altered to accommodate her health issues. Others would have used the situation for gain; John did not. His assistance to us was invaluable.

Concerned Parent Following-up on Charges/Legal Options
I called Mr. Robertson seeking guidance related to my college student's legal issues. Mr. Robertson promptly took the call and explained the charges, court proceedings and possible outcomes. He was knowledgeable, extremely helpful and very pleasant during his free consultation. I do not need to retain his legal services at this time. If needed in the future, I will definitely hire Mr. Robertson.

Excellent Service
I hired John as a criminal defense lawyer for a small drug offense. From start to finish, he was extremely helpful and patiently answered my questions about the law, my offense, and court procedures. Even after he received my payment, he was willing to meet and discuss options moving forward. John's rates were fair, and he was very easy to communicate with. In the end, my charges were dropped and I can get the incident expunged from my record less than a year after it took place. As a college student, it is not easy to afford such quality legal advice. But Mr. Robertson's service was completely worth it, as he eased the financial and personal pain inherent in any legal issue. I would 100% recommend John Robertson to my friends and family, as his service was completely exceptional.

Coming Through in the Clutch
Recently I was involved in a traffic accident with a county vehicle, however, because the other driver did not stop I did not stop to report the incident. Once I realized I could be charged with leaving the scene of an accident or worse, I called a friend who referred me to John. John took my call after business hours (as he was about to leave the office). He patiently discussed my situation and helped me calm down and assess my options, providing insight supported by a clear understanding of the applicable law and the possible outcomes of my situation. Based on his advice, I was able to quickly address the situation. I can honestly say that he was a lifesaver, could not have been more sympathetic, courteous, or helpful, and without his advice the situation would almost certainly have gotten worse instead of better. I wholeheartedly recommend John to anyone in need of legal advice.

Look No Further
I own a single property in Roanoke county that I have been renting out for the past few years and up until recently I've had pretty good luck with the tenants. Once I ran into a situation with a problematic tenant though, I found myself disjointed and confused about the law and what I could do to remedy the situation either by squashing lease violations or potentially evicting the tenant. The law seems to heavily favor the tenant and the steps required to remedy a problem situation, left me uncertain about how to proceed. I attempted to reach out to a couple of attorneys in the Roanoke area but had little luck in even getting someone's attention. In stepped John Robertson w/Spicer Law. A mutual acquaintance put me in touch with John and while I'm sure that my particular needs didn't represent a windfall of revenue for John, he was very gracious, professional, and helpful. John made it easy for me to ask questions, maintaining regular contact with me via email which I think worked out well for both he and I. This allowed me to get the answers I needed, when I needed them, without unduly burdening John's schedule and other responsibilities. Not only did John direct me but he went a huge step beyond my expectations and actually taught me about the process so that I could "fend for myself". In my opinion that is representative of someone who truly cares about people. As much as I dread having to go through the courts for anything at all, in this particular situation John has enabled me to do so with confidence, clarity and understanding. To me that is priceless and his assistance has far exceeded any expectations that I may have had. I am so glad that I now have a dependable and knowledgeable, legal point of contact as a landlord. And to those attorneys in Roanoke that failed to get back to me......please reach out to John Robertson so that he can show you how it should be done.

Assistance with loan repayment
I was referred to John by a friend for assistance with repayment of a loan. He was always available and provided expert guidance through small claims court, which proved to be not so consumer friendly. During the time between court dates, my father passed away. I could not imagine how difficult it would have been to go back to court without John by my side. He made it so easy for me to simply answer "yes" or "no" and got me through it. He sincerely expressed his condolences and I am certain that he truly cares about his clients. John is the only lawyer that I have dealt with that I would ever recommend. His is the best, hands-down.

Very Knowledgeable and Helpful
Little did we know that inheriting rental property would become a nightmare for us. After consulting with a friend's husband who manages a local rental company, we were directed to Mr. Robertson for help with a tenant issue. Mr. Robertson was very easy to talk to, clear and concise with his explanations, and followed up with us by email as events and issues developed. In the courtroom, he made us feel as comfortable and we were well prepared to answer any questions that were directed toward us. We were very pleased with the outcome of our situation and have since sought his help on other rental matters. We would highly recommend Mr. Robertson to anyone that has Landlord/Tenant/Rental issues.

The Best in the Burg!
Earlier this year, I was charged with a DUI, first offense. John was extremely helpful and accessible throughout the entire process. He was always there to answer any questions, and he truly served as an advocate for me and my situation. Thanks to his hard work and diligence, the DUI was reduced to a reckless driving. I am extremely grateful to John and his firm for such impeccable service!

A Silver Lining to Unfortunate Event
John Robertson was a real godsend when I needed an attorney experienced in areas specific to misdemeanor violations and student conduct. He guided me, stood by me, and gave me the "sanity check" I needed. He was spot on with his counsel and I could not have imagined going through what I did without him. A professional in the truest sense of the word, I would highly recommend him to anyone in the Christiansburg/Blacksburg (Virginia) area needing a legal professional.

wouldnt call
I suppose he is overworked or just too busy. after 3 voicemails left on his phone, and 5 emails to his website, basically pleading towards the last, to at least return my calls or email and tell me to buzz off or whatever but he could not even bother to do that. We were basically beat up in montgomery county court named as a defendant in a litigation for unpaid rent late fees, as well as eviction from mobile home park by brand new owners over severe rent hike and ignorant and mean rules package. as the defendant I did not get to say but only 1 word, yes or no on amount owed. I was trying to find out where to pay your rent while litigation over rules took place but no answers from him. BTW it is paid 3rd floor court house called registry if anyone needs this info like I did. but you gotta give landlords 30 days notice by certified mail that their rent is being paid there and why. information that would definately kept us from a 10 day eviction which is complete horsepuckey because it was never about the normal rent money which is all they were awarded anyway. but after being late on rent only twice in 14 + years we were booted anyway. thanks there mr. robertson for all your help. NOT!!!!!!!

Response from John Robertson February 20, 2018
This individual was never a client. I'm very sorry that I was unable to return his calls in this matter, because I have been occupied representing several clients in an expedited federal matter (fighting the taking of their land for a gas pipeline) and another client in a murder trial. These other matters were for my current clients, and required extraordinary attention. I am sorry that I was unable to take his case, and that he chose not to call any other attorneys. Though it is unfortunate that he appears to be taking out his frustrations regarding his landlord in this review, I am hopeful that he finds a landlord who treats him fairly in the future.
