I retained this attorney because he seemed knowledgeable and competent during our initial consultations. However, I never instructed him to begin any legal action, as I was still deciding on timing. Later, when I reviewed the billing statements, I was surprised to see how much of my retainer had been... used through repeated 15-minute ‘update’ entries, even though no work had been initiated on my matter. Aside from a few brief emails, there hadn’t been much communication, so I didn’t expect ongoing billing while the case was essentially inactive. He may be a good fit for others, but in my experience the billing approach didn’t align with what I expected for a matter that hadn’t yet begun. I would recommend future clients clarify how updates are billed before retaining.
