Biography
Brook M. Thibault is the owner of The Coastal Virginia Law Firm and a seasoned Virginia Beach trial attorney representing clients in divorce, child custody, visitation, family law, appeals, criminal defense, and related matters throughout Virginia. Since entering private practice, Brook has devoted more than a decade to litigating divorce, custody, and visitation disputes. His day-to-day practice has placed him in the courtroom handling contested family-law matters, navigating complex divorces, and advocating for parents and children during some of the most difficult and consequential periods of their lives. Brook understands that a divorce or custody case is not simply a legal proceeding. It can determine a parent’s relationship with a child, the future of a family home, the division of retirement and financial assets, and a client’s long-term stability. He approaches these cases with careful preparation, determined advocacy, and a clear focus on protecting his clients, their children, their families, and the assets they have worked to build. His family-law experience includes contested and uncontested divorce, equitable distribution, complex marital-property disputes, custody and visitation litigation, child and spousal support, separation agreements, military divorce, enforcement and modification proceedings, and family-law appeals. Whether a matter can be resolved through negotiation or must be tried in court, Brook works to develop a strategy tailored to the client’s circumstances, priorities, and future. Before entering private practice, Brook served as a public defender and as Associate Counsel for CMA CGM (America) LLC. His corporate legal work included commercial real estate transactions, transportation and maritime matters, and international asset-search and collection issues. This combination of courtroom, corporate, and family-law experience allows him to evaluate complicated legal and financial questions from multiple perspectives.
Brook earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science, with a concentration in Legal Studies, from the University at Buffalo. He later attended Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach.
