We worked with Lusk Law to help us navigate making a claim against the MHIC Guaranty Fund. This is a very niche area of law and I was fortunate enough that a Google search connected me to this law firm. Making a claim against the Guaranty Fund is an option available to homeowners to get reimbursed for loss caused by a MHIC licensed contractor who performed incorrect/incomplete home improvement work. Contractors are required to pay into the fund as part of the licensing process. If a claim is made against the fund based on a contractor's work and the homeowner wins, the contractor is required to pay the fund back for the amount awarded to the homeowner. His or her license is suspended until he or she repays the fund. We consulted with Rebekah before the initial administrative hearing and she gave us sound, straight forward advice about how to approach the hearing. The judge ended up ruling in our favor and awarded us reimbursement from the Guaranty Fund. It wasn't for our total loss but it was significant. As we expected, our contractor took exception to the decision. When this happened, we hired Lusk Law to handle the exceptions hearing. We were fortunate enough to be able to work with Rebekah's colleague, Steven Bright, who was a contractor himself so he really understood our case and the MHIC Guaranty Fund process. We felt that the firm was mindful about our costs and only did the work and made the communications that were absolutely necessary which helped reduce our costs.
