also known as Van T. Doan
At the Law Firm of Van T. Doan, LLC, our practice is focused on immigration law and family law. We have a comprehensive understanding of the complex nature of immigration law and the implications that may arise from emotionally charged domestic matters. The firm is routinely called upon to either consult or handle immigration matters where the parties may be separated or going through a high-conflict divorce. We also frequently receive referrals from domestic law attorneys where one of the parties is a foreign national and concerns have been raised regarding lawful status, child custody and visitation, and domestic violence.
As a certified mediator and collaborative law practitioner, I believe in negotiation and that eventually, calmer heads will prevail. However, when the situation demands immediate action such as when a child has been removed from the home without notice or consent, I have successfully petitioned for the Court to take action for the safe return of the child.

Extremely knowledgeable in immigration law
If I could give a higher rating than 5 stars I absolutely would. Ms. Doan was retained for a complicated immigration issue, which made other lawyers scratch their head in confusion. She was extremely knowledgeable in my matter and was thorough in the case. I can't thank her enough for all the hard wo...

Disappointed
I was disappointed with this attorney. While knowledgeable about many aspects of immigration law, she seemed to be out of date with immigration issues relating to Mexican nationals. Also, paid $275 for a 1 hour consultation, of which I only used about 45 minutes of her time before ending the call. ...
I am very are sorry that after your consultation with me you came to the belief that my knowledge surrounding Mexican nationals was inadequate and further that you did not receive a good value from the flat fee initial consultation. I can see how with those beliefs you would feel disappointed. Even though we did not end up representing you, I remember our consultation, and the reasons we did not work together. I want you to know that in the year that has passed since we spoke, country conditions and and immigration relief possibilities for many including, Mexican nationals have changed dramatically. If your issue is ongoing, it is important to be actively working with counsel that remains abreast of the changes in the law. I also want you to know that I take all feedback very seriously. Negative feedback, while frustrating, is ultimately an opportunity to improve. With that in mind, I have examined the series of communications that occurred over multiple weeks stemming from the initial consultation. I have determined that in future consultations, if more than one party has relevant information and/or will be impacted by decisions to be made, it is best to require that person's presence at the initial consultation either in person or by phone. While this may delay the scheduling of the consultation or even prevent someone from consulting with us, we believe it is necessary to allow us to have a complete understanding of everyone's concerns and position on the various issues and thus, allow us to address all the issues and concerns in a more comprehensive manner.

Excellent immigration lawyer for Family related immigration matters
Ms. Van Doan helped me with a situation involving possible marriage fraud. As a United States Citizen we are extremely vulnerable to immigration fraud. "Van has a unique appreciation of the impact immigration status can have on family law matters, and vice-versa. I routinely seek her perspective on matters and wouldn't hesitate for a moment in referring clients to her. An excellent attorney."
"Van is a highly competent and ethical attorney who practices family law and family-based immigration law. I was honored to be invited to present on a panel she co-organized for the DC area chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. On the panel a family lawyer and an immigration lawyer from DC, Maryland, and Virginia each addressed the overlapping issues that practitioners from both areas should be alert to, as well as relevant differences in family law in the three jurisdictions. Van is respected by her colleagues and clients for her tenacity, generosity, and the depth of her knowledge."
"I endorse this lawyer. Van is a trusted colleague whose counsel I have sought on many occasions for issues involving the intersection of immigration and family law. She is a dedicated, hard-working attorney who fights for her clients and a valuable member of the bar."
