My son is a young adult living with mental illness. His condition rendered him unable to communicate or advocate for his own needs. He has returned to college, maintains a high B grade point average and is enjoying his life. Ms. Helwig was extremely knowledgeable and effective as well as showing great kindness and compassion to my son. I seriously attribute by son's improved health and wellness to Ms. Helwig. Nina was assigned by the courts as the BIA for my stepdaughter. She went above and beyond to make sure her best interest was taken into account. Nina is a direct and fair professional. I noticed that there are a couple of mediocre reviews for Ms. Helwig. I can tell you that as a Best Interest Attorney, there will usually be 50% of any BIA clients who are not going to be happy with the outcome of the results. In our case, the court ordered Ms. Helwig as our BIA. Neither party had... any knowledge of who Ms. Helwig was other than reading the reviews on this site. I can tell you that Ms. Helwig investigated our custody situation inside and out. She was thorough, professional, and really dug into our custody matter to find the REAL truth. She found out the true extent of the acrimony, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, she only cared about what would be best for the children. Reading all other reviews about Ms. Helwig lead me to believe that any negative reviews of her are from parties who ended up on the losing end of custody. I can say this with 100% certainty...If Ms. Helwig is retained as your BIA she will find the truth. If a party is acting in a way that is detrimental to YOUR children, then Ms. Helwig will get to the bottom of it and make her recommendations based on that information. Her prior experience gives her an exceptional ability to really develop a clear picture, and reach the TRUTH on behalf of the children she represents. 5 stars is not nearly a high enough rating for Nina Helwig!

Nina Helwig was appointed by the court when I was going through a terrible custody battle over my two sons. My ex-wife and I had recently gone through a messy divorce in which neither of us were really blameless. Nina entered the case with a completely open mind. She was very respectful and did no...t take sides. Basically, she tried to determine the best situation for our kids. She interviewed everyone in the family as well as relevant friends and school officials. I did not completely win the case, but I think her recommendations were very fair and sensible for my kids.

I found Nina Helwig to be an articulate and considerate best interest attorney for my children. Despite the outcome of my custody trial, I believe my children’s best interest were first and foremost in Nina’s delivery to the court.
