I highly recommend Ms. Hotz as an attorney, especially for custody cases. I was being denied access to my child and hadn't seen or heard from them in several months. I filed for custody and tried representing myself. It did not go well and I do not recommend it. As a single father and African Americ...an, I had to fight tooth and nail to even get in front of a judge, and even then it felt like I was the one on trial. I was asking for equal rights and 50/50 custody of my child, and with the help of Ms. Hotz I was able to achieve that. I now have equal time with my child as the other parent does and am now required to be involved in all decision-making. Ms. Hotz was very professional, punctual, and organized, and spoke with confidence and intelligence. She took on my case last minute and worked with me financially. She was willing to travel and represent me in a different county. Ms. Hotz was able to gather everything she needed in minimal time and was fully prepared for trial. She was readily available by phone or text which was very convenient. Many times I would be unsure how to handle a situation and she would be a text message away and advise me on what to do. I hired Heidi based on the reviews. I was in a bad spot, I had fired my first attorney after a year and it was late in the process. Although the discovery period had ended and a Pendente Lite order issued, she accepted my case. After numerous attempts to settle, motions, a deposition, and many lett...ers, my case went to trial. Throughout the divorce process Heidi was responsive, well prepared, and organized. She was fair and reasonable about fees and controlling costs. Even a judge pointed this out as “refreshing” during a motion for sanctions and attorney’s fees we filed against the other party and won. In a case as complex and contentious as mine, she had the wonderful ability to recall hundreds of emails, text messages and financial records that I had provided. Her knowledge of family law and Maryland rules was exceptional. In any divorce case, emotions run high. Fortunately, Heidi did not get caught up in the fray and brought a calming mindset to the whole process. Should I ever think about getting married again, I’m calling Heidi for the prenup!
