John Phillip Hotz

I am an experienced attorney and public interest advocate, committed to providing high-quality, affordable legal solutions to workers, families and seniors. My practice focuses on four areas of the law: Employee Disability & Retirement Benefits (ERISA, Civil Service, Social Security), Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs) and other domestic relations orders (Civil Service, Military, Railroad) that divide retirement and other benefits at divorce, Estate Planning and Probate, and Family Law. My partner focuses primarily on Family Law (divorce, custody, spousal and child support, property division). 

We welcome all potential clients in need of our services, but we specifically reach out to those who fall through the legal service-delivery gaps - employees, families and seniors who, either due to their income or for other reasons, do not qualify for free or subsidized legal services, but do not feel that they can afford a high-cost attorney. To meet this goal we offer sliding-scale fee structures that are based on income and ability to pay - because everyone deserves access to justice.

Our offices are located in Rockville, Maryland. I am licensed in Maryland, the District of Columbia and California. I can also practice in the U.S. District Courts for the District of Maryland and the Northern District of California; the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Fourth and Ninth Federal Circuits Fourth and Ninth Federal Circuits; and in the Supreme Court of the United States.
