This attorney doesn't always know best

You would expect a man such Mr. Bonsib, would be a man to place your faith. I trusted him and my family trusted him to help me proceed with my criminal trial. He was wrong, bet those cases just get swept under the rug when it comes to his "accomplishments". I would never recommend this man. He wa...s nice and came with high recommendations from a family member who was a retired sheriff. A luxury suv worth of fees were paid by my family and still spent 2 years in prison for a crime I didn't commit because he said to go with a judge trial. Said he knew the judge and thought he would be easier, biggest mistake of my life. The courts weren't even supposed to try me first, but they needed to set a precedent and make an example of me. He was too cocky and I wasn't prepared. I trusted him and I lost a huge part of my life, because even though it was only 2 years + 10 years probation (nevermind, the restitution I was to spend years paying)... it took me nearly 15 years to rebuild. And he never looked back. I mean the man still has a binder full of character reference letters and my actual high school diploma - he called once about returning 5 years ago and I still have yet to see it. Sure I grew a lot closer to God and learned to really appreciate the family and friends who stuck by me, a couple blessings from this whole mess, but I still have to feel the embarrassment I put my loved ones through. Even considered writing a book, still have every letter I sent home to my mom, letters I nearly wrote every day. I hope this helps at least one person in the future.

This person writes a review every 3 or 4 years repeating the same statements. Lawyers are limited by ethical considerations with respect to what information can be publicly posted in response to comments such as this one. I was retained to assist this client. I added an associate attorney to the case at no additional cost to the client. The fee she was charged would not have covered the cost of a used SUV. We aggressively defended her in federal court in a difficult trial against strong government evidence. I did not recommend a judge trial. In fact, she had a jury trial so it is hard to understand why she is complaining about a judge trial. It was a jury that convicted her, not a judge. She retained another attorney for sentencing. Her complaints regarding restitution issues were also sentencing issues for which our firm was not responsible. After her sentencing, this client returned to our firm asking that we assist her with her appeal. Because of comments such as those in this review we declined to further represent her. This review was posted for a case that occurred in 2012. I encourage others to review other comments from my other clients and visit my website at [email protected] for a more accurate view of the difficult cases I have handled and continue to handle and the reviews and recognitions from individuals and organizations that have known me over the years. I have always worked hard and, when necessary, aggressively defended clients in trials. I care about my clients but obviously cannot please everyone. The reviews from my many clients attest to the professional and caring manner in which I represent my clients. This review just proves that you can please everyone, no matter how hard you try.

Best Lawyer

Robert Bonsib was hired during a scary time in my life in which he was a cornerstone of confidence and knowledge. I was very lucky to have him help me. From the day of my questioning through hearings to court appearances he represented me with accuracy, sensitivity and skill. If he did not represe...nt me I do not believe my family or I could have made it through this legal issue. When in the court house from the security guards to the staff and other prosecutors Robert Bonsib treated others with respect and received it back twice over. The attention and demeanor of Robert Bonsib kept me at ease, answering any and all questions I had. -Satisfied Client

Hire him and watch him work. Need I say more!!

I was charged with 1st degree attempt murder in Calvert County, MD. I fired my old lawyer and hired Bob ( Mr. Bonsib ) with only 2 months untill trial. The victim testified against me, and my co-defendent turned on me as well. Bob saved my life, what more can I say not guilty on all counts making all... the witnesses look like fools. If I get locced up for anything big or small I only trust Bonsib or anyone under his guidance with my life. Worth every penny.

"My father was a Prince George's County Police Officer. When I decided to go to law school and practice criminal law, he told me to look no further than Bob Bonsib for guidance. My father had the pleasure of seeing Bob practice on both sides of the aisle as both a prosecutor and defense attorney, and to this day still tells stories of Bob's brilliance in the courtroom. Bob is a friend, mentor, pillar of the legal community, and most importantly, an excellent trial lawyer."

"I endorse this lawyer. Ask most Federal or State Judges in Maryland or the District of Columbia, who is the number one criminal defense attorney? Who would you choose to represent you, your wife, your son or your daughter? The answer is usually Robert Bonsib. I have seen this gentleman in the courtrooms of Maryand for 25 years. I have seen him lecture to large rooms of the most esteemed Judges and Lawyers in this State. I have seen him receive awards from these same professionals. For over 37 years, he is among the very finest lawyers in Maryland and the District of Columbia."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
