I highly recommend Shelly. She is super smart, very capable, and has a wonderful staff. During a very emotional time, she helped me understand the complex issues of my case and I learned to rely on her judgement and experience. Shelly was spot on with her advice to help me focus on the issues that... mattered relating to child custody, finances, and property of my divorce. It was a treat to see her process the facts and turn around amazing work in a short time. Her staff was friendly and capable in helping me gather information and answer questions. Shelly was also very generous with her time; she was always available when I needed her, and very gracious on helping me control costs. Shelly Ingram did an excellent job with my divorce and custody case. I moved to another state right when I was served with paperwork for divorce. She was able to work with me on my case from 8 hours away. I felt fully informed and whenever I did not understand a procedure or what was happening she... was there to explain everything. For me, facing divorce was the most anxious period in my life. Long before it was final, however, my anxiety had substantially subsided because of t...he reassurance and confidence that the process would resolve with minimal disruption to the "rest of my life". My very first consultation with Shelly Ingram assuaged my fears of the unknown and dramatically lowered my personal level of anxiety regarding the most significant change in my life. While representing me, Shelly Ingram provided an extraordinary balance of empathy and aggressiveness, and professionalism. Shelly Ingram has a practiced talent for easily communicating complex legal details quickly and effectively in a manner that paid great respect to my emotional investment in this change of life. Another attribute of Shelly Ingram, which I believe to be crucial to in any attorney/client relationship (and rarely found) , was her ability to facilitate a focused perspective from which I was able to objectively approach very difficult decisions with sound judgment and calm confidence. Were it not for her expert attentiveness to my legal situation, I would have been unable to concentrate my personal resources on the other aspects of my life (children, extended family, employees and employer); that is, I was able to prepare myself for a new stage in life, parallel with the complex process of divorce. I cannot recommend Shelly Ingram. Throughout my divorce, I was fighting two battles: one against the opposing party and one against my own attorney’s pressure to settle for less than I deserved. My experience was defined by two major failures in advocacy: Custody: Despite my children living wit...h me after their mother moved out of the home, my attorney insisted I accept a 5/14 (every other weekend) schedule, claiming it was the Maryland standard. When I secured text evidence from my ex agreeing to 50/50, my attorney was hesitant to use it, stating "it might hold up in court." I ignored their advice, went to court, and the judge awarded 50/50 custody specifically citing the texts my attorney wanted to downplay. Financials: At our Pendente Lite (P&L) hearing, the judge ruled that no alimony was necessary for my ex. Despite this, when the opposing party asked for alimony again during asset division, my attorney pressured me to pay it simply to reach a quick settlement. I had to act as my own advocate to stop this firm from giving away my parenting time and assets. If I had listened to their advice, I would be seeing my children significantly less and paying unnecessary support.
