Paid Her For a Consult, She Cancelled Representation Day Before Court

Mingo Stroeber was hired by me on October 21, 2011 for representation in Family Court on November 8th at 9:00am. I paid her $350 for the consult and owed her $300 to be paid on November 8. She told me I had a sure win as my child was "gaming the system" (her words) and she would win my case for me. ...On November 7 at 4:00pm she called me to tell me that something came up and she was unable to represent me. I asked her to get a continuance but she said it was too late. But she had a friend who would represent me and arranged for the friend to meet me on November 8 one hour before court to explain things. I decided that this was not in my best interest and called the law office of Mark Momjian but found he was unavailable that late in the day and I was told to call back the next day. After calling 3 other law offices and getting their answering services I figured it was too late to find a new attorney. I called the attorney for the City of Philadelphia, reached her and explained the situation and asked for a continuance. It was explained to me that if Stroeber refused to represent me so late in the day I should use the attorney assigned to me on "the wheel", but no continuances would be granted to anyone except an attorney. Now it was after 5:00pm and most law offices were closed and not accepting clients who needed them the next morning with no knowledge of the case or preparation. I contacted Stroeber and told her I would allow the friend to represent me and asked her to explain the intricacies of the situation and she said she would. She then got the friend on the phone and we made arrangements for a meeting before court. Needless to say, this guy was worthless in court and I lost, spending another $300 for the friend. This was one of the worst experiences I ever had with an attorney and I hope nobody has to go through the travails of Family Court with Mingo Stroeber.
