After graduating from Unionville High School in Kennett Square, Joshua Evan Tebay attended Mary Washington College in Fredericsburg Virginia where he graduated with academic distinction. This led to him attending and graduation from Widener University School of Law where he graduated cum laude, finished in the top 20 percent of his class and gained a distinction in trial advocacy.
After passing the PA and NJ bar exams, he went to work for the State’s Attorney’s Office in Baltimore City, MD from January 2007 to February 2008 for a division of the office that prosecutes gun crimes. This was his first hands-on experience with the criminal justice system and affirmed his passion for the protection and advancement of our constitutional rights as citizens, as well as a desire to excel as a litigator.
This led to a position as an assistant district attorney with the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office in March 2008, where he was given the opportunity and responsibility to prosecute criminal cases on behalf of the citizens of Bucks County while working independently and as part of a team that handled over 11,000 cases annually. In court daily, Josh conducted preliminary hearings, summary trials, bail hearings, grand jury proceedings, waiver trials, motion practice and jury trials. He worked closely with local and state law enforcement to ensure that criminal investigations and prosecutions did not impinge on the constitutional protections afforded to all citizens of the Commonwealth.
In March 2012 he accepted employment with the law firm of Wilkes and McHugh, PA – a nationally recognized Plaintiff’s firm specializing in professional negligence and medical malpractice. Wilkes & McHugh concentrates most of their practice on cases involving neglect and abuse of the elderly at nursing homes. An easy transition for Josh, he continued fighting for victims of injustice – only this also served as an introduction to the realm of civil practice and litigation. During this time he was responsible for the prosecution of cases through all stages of pre-lit and litigation, up to and including trial. This included pleadings, motion practice, depositions, discovery and all other aspects of case preparations and development.
Joshua understands that an attorney, we have the responsibility to maintain unquestioned professional and ethical standards in dealings with our clients, other attorneys and the court. Some attorneys, rather than recognizing this as an affirmative duty that comes with the profession, choose to disregard the obligation. Throughout his legal career, he has practiced with the understanding that one’s ethical standards and reputation are the hallmark of effective representation. This principle is easily discernable from the first moment he meets with a client, whether it is a DUI charge, a drug offense or another charge.
As a resident of Downingtown, PA, he welcomes the opportunity to come back home and join the civil litigation department of the Law Offices of Ryan Hyde - a firm that shares his beliefs regarding the ethical and professional responsibilities of all attorneys – and bring his years of experience in both the civil and criminal realms of the law to help serve the citizens of Chester County and through out Pennsylvania.
