Erik D. Spurlin, Esq., CELA, LL.M., is the founder of Battlefield Estate & Elder Law, a Gettysburg-based law firm serving clients throughout Adams and York Counties. His practice focuses on estate planning, elder law, Medicaid and long-term care planning, estate and trust administration, guardianships, and special needs planning.
Erik is a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA), certified by the National Elder Law Foundation. Certification as a CELA requires substantial experience in elder law, continuing legal education, peer review, and successful completion of a comprehensive examination. He also holds an LL.M. in Taxation, giving him an additional background in the tax issues that frequently arise in estate planning and administration.
Erik's legal career has been concentrated in estates and elder law. His experience includes serving as a partner with MPL Law Firm in York and practicing with the Elder Law Firm of Robert Clofine in York and Appel & Yost in Lancaster. Earlier in his career, he served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the York County Orphans' Court, where he worked with matters involving estates, trusts, guardianships, and related proceedings.
Erik has also taught and lectured on estate and elder law topics. He has presented continuing legal education programs for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute on subjects including Medicaid planning, guardianship, trusts, asset protection, and estate planning for clients with diminished capacity. He has also taught law-related courses at the college level.
Erik earned his J.D., cum laude, from Temple University School of Law. He later earned an LL.M. in Taxation, with distinction, from Temple and a Graduate Certificate in Estate Planning. While at Temple, he received the Joseph Price Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement in Tax Law.
Before law school, Erik earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Political Science from Arizona State University, graduating summa cum laude from both programs.
Erik's practice is designed around helping individuals and families navigate the legal and financial issues that accompany aging, incapacity, death, and the transfer of wealth. He advises clients both on traditional estate planning and on more complex issues involving long-term care, Medicaid eligibility, asset protection, fiduciary responsibilities, and estate administration.

A+
Erik is my company's attorney and my to go guy for business advisory services. He is quick to respond with helpful guidance, and he is the best attorney I've worked with. Erik also does my estate planning work, and I am very pleased with the plan we've established. Highly recommended.
"Erik is a bright, dedicated attorney. I consider Erik a valuable resource and a credit to the legal profession."
"I endorse this lawyer. Eric is knowledgeable and friendly and a real asset to the legal community in Lancaster and York Counties.
