WIth an already overworked staff,@ the Public Defenders office in Cumberland County, Clay was assigned to my case in which he negotiated the best plea deal and overall outcome considering the gravity of my charges in which I could not see any highly paid attorney could have sealed. I may have been ju...st plain lucky, but I would have to say the efforts of Mr. Merris is highly regarded by myself. If you can not afford an attorney and are in the Cumberland County Courts awaiting court or trial, you should hope to have Clay assigned to your case.

You honestly do get what you pay for. He is currently an assistant public defender and from what I could tell, he would rather just give everyone ARD even if they have a legitimate case on their hands. Out of the 9 people I saw him help, including myself, he told 7 of us ARD was the way to go. I call...ed his office and left 4 voicemails over the course of a week and his secretary sent him an email to call me, and it still took him another full week to call me back. If he ever leaves the public defender's office, I would not recommend him to use if you have a choice.
