For over two decades, I've represented workers who were shorted on their pay by the people who employed them. I'm Christopher Marlborough, founder of the Marlborough Law Firm, and wage theft, not the softer term "wage and hour law" most firms use, is what I've built my practice around: unpaid overtime, minimum wage shortfalls, off-the-clock work, and employees wrongly classified as independent contractors or exempt managers to avoid paying them what they're owed.
I graduated magna cum laude from SUNY Purchase and, in 2003, magna cum laude from Brooklyn Law School, where I was a Sparer Public Interest Fellow. I started practicing in 2003 and have handled class and collective wage theft actions since 2007, first as ass an associate at Faruqi & Faruqi and, since 2013, as principal of my own firm.
Most Marlborough Law Firm cases run on contingency, typically a third of any recovery, and in many wage and hour matters the employer ends up covering attorney's fees under federal and state fee-shifting statutes rather than that fee coming out of a client's own award.
Outside the courtroom, I currently serve as an Executive Board Member and Co-Chair of the Legislative Advocacy Committee for NELA-NY, sit on the Advisory Committee for Documented-NY, and previously chaired the Nassau County Bar Association's Labor and Employment Committee. My peers and colleagues have recognized that work: NELA-NY's Courageous Counsel Award, the Nassau County Bar Association's Lawrence Solotoff Memorial Recognition for Distinguished Professional Achievement, the Long Island Herald's Top Lawyers of Long Island in Employment Law, and a Super Lawyers selection every year since 2015 (Rising Star in 2013 and 2014 before that).
Workers who've been cheated out of their wages are often the most reluctant to come forward. Making that easier, and making the people who steal wages pay for it, is why the Marlborough Law Firm exists.
