Howard Bruce Leff

I retained Howard when my children were 4 months old. It was the most stressful time of my life. From the beginning he didn't lie to me, he didn't tell me what he thought I 'wanted' to hear, he told me what to expect as an outcome. He was realistic. He treated me like a normal person, not like I ...was just someone who was paying him to do a service. I have heard many people complain that their attorney didn't respond to them in a timely manner or call them back. Howard always called back, and he didn't block his number. I had to retain him a second time, six years later, to fight for child support and arrears. Nothing was different, except that I felt like I'd know him too long. But kidding aside. We won that case. What makes Howard different from other attorneys. He's honest, even if its not exactly what you want to hear. He's actually calming when you are in a stressful situation. He's funny, which doesn't seem like a big deal, but when you are stressed out sitting in a court room, wanting to cry, it actually helps. But most of all, he is incredibly smart and knows the law. I hope I never have to hire him again. But for anyone looking for a great attorney, he would be someone I highly recommend.

Howard Leff came highly recommended to me, after my 3 ring circus of a divorce with a very inexperienced lawyer. After my divorce was finalized in July 2012, my ex-husband served me with bogus accusations in a custody case. I wanted the best lawyer for this and Howard certainly was that. He is ext...remely knowledgeable of matrimony and custody laws. He listens to his client and their family and prepares them for court. He would prefer to settle things out of court, which saves his client a lot of money, but he is ready for the challenge and the fight of a trial, if need be. He is very thorough and doesn't let anything slip by him. He keeps track of his client's paperwork and tells them everything they need to know. His client is number 1 to him. My custody case took a year to close, (not his nor my fault, but the ex's fault). During this time, Howard proved over and over that my ex-husband and his lawyer lied about everything and they couldn't even keep track of their lies and they would contradict themselves over and over. The judge was not pleased with them, but Howard was Golden and so was I. Howard was right there by my side the entire time. He would return my calls and emails promptly. My 21 year old daughter interrogated him to make sure he passed her test to protect her siblings and he gladly answered her, respected her and listened to her concerns. A couple of years later I asked Howard to represent me in Support Court to ensure that my support payments are controlled by the State. He was right by my side again and I would chose no one else ever, but Howard. He is an experienced, knowledgeable, quick thinker, organized and a smooth talker.....The Best in New York!!!

Great and most honest attorney out there!! I hired Howard Leff after I found out and filed with Bar Association against my first lawyer for fraudulent charges. (that's a different post). Needless to say, I was very hesitant and skeptical in hiring another attorney until I found Howard Leff. Howa...rd did all the leg work that the other lawyer never did but charged me for it. I went through a tough time in my divorce but Howard guided me and supported me through the entire time. The time when I really grew respect and trust for Howard was when my youngest daughter had to go in for surgery. (thank god nothing serious and she was fine) My ex and I sat down in this crucial time and decided to come up with a settlement and present it to our lawyers. The first thing that Howard did mention is that I am giving my ex an amazing deal but if we go to court I will DEFINITELY get you a better deal! The RESPECT and TRUST came to me when I really didn't know what to do.......He pulled me aside and said to me..... "Joe, it's a great deal but if we go to court it's going to cost you about $30,000 that you'll have to pay me or with the deal you guys came up with..... over the years the cost will be about the same. But, the money will be going to your kids and not me." Now totally confused and really not knowing what to do..... Then he said to me....."if you were my son, I would do the deal you guys worked out. At least you know the money is effectively filtering down to your kids in some way!" At that moment, I knew that Howard was sincere and honest! Not just looking to just take me to the bank and run! If I had to go through a divorce again, which i'm not going to, I would absolutely hire Howard again. If I had to, in 3 words, describe Howard, those words would be: HONEST, SINCERE & TRUSTWORTHY!!

Howard was referred to me by a local psychologist. He listens carefully and doesn't jump to conclusions. In a nonthreatening manner he engages in a Q & A to root out details to obtain a clear understanding of you and the problems associated to your case. His manner is friendly but serious about the... issues of your case. You will be educated in the fact finding process. Howard is experienced and draws upon the realities of "How the System Operates". His demeanor is: "I am here to help you and I want to", he cares. Just know that there are limitations out of our control set by past presidents in the court and our culture. The client isn't "just a number", among many clients where the attorney's mission is to process as many cases as possible in the quickest amount of time. I interviewed other attorneys before retaining Howard. The others appeared to have a preset formula approach: "plug in certain information and there will be a certain outcome. " Every case is unique and Howard made that clear from day one. He made no false promises. As my case proceeded, Howard was open to my reactions of developments and he accepted my input. My responses were not always what he might have anticipated; but we moved forward with a team approach.
