I placed a phone call to this attorney about advice for dealing with mediation in a LT case. He was quick to respond. He gave detailed answers, and did not make me feel rushed, despite this being a consultation. He was attentive to the details of my case and knew a great deal of actionable informatio...n offhand. If you need a civil dispute resolution attorney, Elan is your guy! Absolutely brilliant! I was involved in a seemingly-endless nightmare of having to handle simultaneously a criminal and civil case. Elan helped me out with the latter (he doesn’t practice criminal law), which arose from the dismiss...al of the former. Basically, the plaintiff in the civil case was the complainant in the criminal case. She had me wrongfully arrested and then, after the criminal case was dismissed, sued me for $25,000 – the jurisdictional limit – in Civil Court. She was relentless there, perjuring herself over and over, in asserting what I thought to be (and still think) were completely frivolous claims. At first, I represented myself since both Elan and I came to the conclusion when the civil case was just starting that it would not make economic sense for me to retain him. However, after I was denied summary judgment and it became clear that I was headed for trial, I simply could not continue to be a pro se defendant. In my mind, there was no one other than Elan who could handle my case since he knew the facts of my case inside and out. I therefore pleaded with Elan—who is not inexpensive but is worth every penny and more for what he charges—to represent me, even though paying for the representation would be difficult. Lo and behold, in response to my concerns, Elan was able to come up with a workable, affordable plan that alleviated them: he arranged to partner with two other lawyers who had time to come to court, prepare papers, and otherwise argue the case. I ended up having a legal “Dream Team” that I could afford! In conjunction with the other lawyers on the team, Elan planned, strategized, and directed case management operations while simultaneously drawing on his alternative dispute resolution skills in attempting to get the case settled out-of-court. While such an out-of-court settlement ultimately did not occur, the civil case did settle at a pretrial conference after a new judge was suddenly assigned to it when the judge originally assigned to the case received a new standing assignment. In this regard, I believe that G-d gave the team and me some divine assistance since the new judge had decided some of the case law that Elan had been using as part of his overall game plan. The new judge ending up seeing things in a way that supported arguments that Elan and the team had arrived at and leaned on the plaintiff to encourage a settlement for what amounted to nuisance value. Finally, the nightmare was over! There are no words to describe Elan's brilliance. I was constantly amazed and hung on to his every word while I went through hell. At times, he shocked me every step of the way with his intelligence and vast legal knowledge. When it came to following up, Elan was on top of every angle and document, going above and beyond what any lawyer would normally do. In this regard, one month after the pretrial conference that ended in the case tentatively settling, he took the time to make sure that the settlement would not remain tentative by submitting additional documents to the Court demonstrating that I had fulfilled my settlement obligations. In short, everything was done perfectly and with an eye towards giving my interests the most protection possible. Throughout it all, Elan listened, cared, and made me feel appreciated. Most importantly, he knew the law inside and out and made me feel confident and reassured amidst all of the procedural and substantive hurdles that I faced such as motion practice and dealing with voluminous documents.
